Myers is an average pitcher making 2 1/2 times the average starting pitcher salary. Baseball Reference lists Kris Benson and Adam Eaton as two of the top ten pitchers he compares to. Enough said! Not looking to bash the guy. His AB against CC last year was total entertainment but it’s time to turn the page on this one.

The problem with Myers is that he always been a #2 and unfortunately we lack the pitching acumen to have a] realized it and b] have polished him in the minors. Plus why would a club in a hitters park try to make a fly ball pitcher a #1…he can’t strike-out everyone. Look at Hamels he’s a fly ball/ strike-out pitcher and we see how he struggled with the long ball. Thank god Lee realized this shortcoming early in his career when he put up absolutely horrendous numbers in hitter’s parks and so developed a two seamer.

Jim – you forgot one more lefty: Moyer. Kendrick isn’t bad now that he has the change-up to complement his sinker. I don’t know if they will bring him into the rotatikon but god knows we need a ground ball pitcher.

I am worried about the rotation for next year. Figure Lee, Hamels (assuming he can get his head straightened out), Blanton, and Happ. Three lefties and one righty. They need a #3 righty to balance things out. I think Myers could have filled that role although his history of injuries makes it difficult for the team to commit to him. Looking at the list of free agent pitchers, I don’t see anyone that really fits well and I can’t see them jumping Drabek up to the majors anytime soon. Kendrick is a good guy but just doesn’t have Major League stuff. I hope Ruben and team know what they’re doing here.

One of the few classless guys on an otherwise classy team. I’m happy to see him go. I prefer my teams to not only be good athletes but good people, and Bretty Myers has never seemed to fit that description.

It seems to me that any time there was any negitive stuff comming from the Phillies clubhouse, it had Bretts name attached to it. This whole thing with him assulting his wife. The blow up on Charley in the dug out. The I lied because i was embarrased when I fell out of my truck. This past world series with Cole. Passion is one thing but you have to think “Whats next from Brett” was kind of on the mind of everyone in the club house. To win the Phillies don’t need drama. They need players that will keep there mouths shut and there eye on the prize and put the team above everything else. I don’t thing the Phillies see Brett as that guy.

Apart from the personal issues, Myers was making way too much money to justify bringing him back. Hometown discount is one thing, but how low is he going to go after he cleared $12 mill this year? Right now his only plus pitch is his curve, which is still very good. But his 89 mph ‘heater’ gets tagged with regularity, and his slider hasn’t been plus since 2006. Add in durability concerns, etc., etc. and yeah, there’s more reliable ways to spend that money.

Shame. Brett has talent, but hasn’t really put it together in a consistent way. And his talent seems to be in decline. Pass. He has a ring, and will always be remembered as a significant part of last year’s run. Things could be worse.

He’s not a good clubhouse guy, he has said and done some very immature things, he never lived up to his contract, he has injury issues and nobody is really sure whether he can be an effective starter OR reliever anymore. Yea, I’m not surprised… I mean, you knew they weren’t going to pay him anywhere near what he’s making now.

I’m surprised to hear peoples reactions, like they actually expected him to return…I mean seriously, the guy was nothing more than a good #4 man in the rotation who got paid #1-#2 guy money. Every year was the same with Myers…Got the ball opening day, and got bombed every season. I wouldn’t be hurt if he stayed as a reliever, but that would never happen. I always looked at Brett as ”that bad apple in the batch” type of player, who just didn’t belong. Good luck to him somewhere else.

I heard the Phillies do want to resign Park if he is willing to come back.
