Scott Boras as his agent doesn't mean that teams will forget to look at stats, or the fact that he's an injury risk

I like Beltre too.. but not for more than like $7 M per season

Beltre got a huge contract coming off of HUGE years in LA.. he won't get anything close to that this team, especially because there are more FREE AGENT 3b, than there are teams that want them

I wouldn't give him more than 3 years.. Probably 2, with a team option..

2 years, $15 M, team option for the 3rd year at $8M.. with a $1 M buyout

i want adrian beltre here.

look at the pros--the guy is still young enough to consider him to have positive, productive years ahead. the transition to the bank from safeco should help his power numbers. think of the numbers he was putting up there in a huge park on an average team. out of the phils 7 hole he would be deadly. another right handed power bat in the lineup with utley howard ibanez werth...deadly. the guy still hit almost .300 against lefties during his injury year last year. also, since he only played 111 games last season due to injury, his pricetage will surely come down to within phils pricerange. he would be a great investment over a 3-4 year period, which is the type of deal the phils need to strike right now. a platoon operation with derosa n company would put this phils in this same situation next offseason. especially because they have nobody in the minors ready to come in as the next 3rd baseman. i hope ruben is on board with beltre.

cons--yes he is a boras client. probably going to be a long, drawn-out process and i think ruben likes to strike quickly. beltre averaged about 12.5 mil per season in his 5year deal in seattle, so i bet boras will get him something similar to that. if that is the case, i dont know if beltre is worth THAT much, especially with some other FA/trade options available. 8mil per year, 3 years with 4th year option, incentive-laden/award bonus contract. he is worth it

Well, Pat, yours is the most compelling case I've heard yet. But I don't see Boras settling for a bargain deal, especially if the Red Sox get involved, which I've heard they may. And anything extra they pay Beltre is less in the budget for the bullpen and bench.

Not sure I totally buy the no pressure thing either... any free agent that comes here will find that expectations are high and the fan base is demanding. And even at age 30, Beltre has 500 more games on his odometer than Feliz.

Well I disagree. The guy hit 25 homers a season for 3 straight years, then took a short hop to the nuggets last year and hit only 8. He has good power, is only 30 and has the best glove in the game, some say. If you pay him $6.5-7 MM for 2-3 yrs, thats on average only $1.5 mil more than what they would have paid Feliz for 2010.

He hits in the 7 hole here, has no pressure on him, and has a better bat than Feliz. I dont see how you go wrong there.

You are correct, wbodisc. Beltre is an inflated talent whose one big year was probably a result of roids. Who needs that? There are better choices. Our fans would rip this guy a new one.

I don't get why anyone would want Beltre here. His stats are inflated by the most suspicious career year this side of Brady Anderson. He promptly turned that into a huge contract in Seattle, where he was a major bust. Philly would chew up and spit out an underachiever like this guy -- he'd be Rod Barajas version 2.0. Not to mention that this supposed upgrade is basically just another streaky, unselective hitter with a good glove... but with a Scott Boras price tag. No thanks.

This Mike Gill belongs in a bigger market. He is incisive in his evaluations and has the star quality to "knock-em-dead" in the big arenas. He would be a great replacement for that hair-dyed fop Howard Eskin or loud-mouth Angelo Castaldi. This Gill guy brings a full load of talent.

I liked the podcast. Keep up the good work. I still hear nothing about my friend Placido Polanco. Perhaps he is not in the mix.
