How convenient that you use errors as a way of justifying Rollins and Vic as gold glovers, but then switch to ultimate zone rating for utley. Is it bc Utley had 12 errors this year? You think its crap that hudson won with a UZR of -3.3, but Vic had a UZR of -4.1 and Rollins only had a 2.7. Utley may have gotten hosed, but then again Rollins should not have won at SS. Tulowitzki should have won at SS. Kemp shouldve won instead of Vic. The gold glove awards are a total crapshoot. Jeter just won another GG. Anyone who thinks they are an accurate indicator of who is the best fielder in the league at their position is delusional. And who really cares who wins anyways.

These Gold Glove awards are laughable. Shane did not have a very good year defensively by any metric and still won. Rollins and Tulowitzski are very close, so not argument there. But as ESPN's Rob Neyer points out, Chase Utley has been the best defensive 2B in the majors in each of the last 5 years.

The best player on the Phillies is still the most underrated one.

Does anyone think Howard deserved more consideration? Seems like all the analysis raved over his massive improvement at 1B this year, I thought he would get consideration.

There are league adjusted stats you effing m0ron. Do you think if Rogers Hornsby was alive today he wouldn't be able to do what he did then because I do? He would have the same advances to technology, weight lifting, swing mechanics, etc. I guess Babe Ruth isn't the best baseball player, right? Hornsby played at the same time as Ruth.

As far as the person comparing Cano to Utley...you're a joke. Comparing Utley to Cano is like comparing A-Rod to Pedro Feliz.

George and Amanda sitting in a tree....... Just kidding. Amanda's my favorite writer too.......

Gold Glove awards like any other season award is always a popularity/wft? freak show every year. There are usually 2-3 well deserving Gold Glove winners at each position in both leagues each year.

I have a concern as J-Roll's range seemed to have dropped noticeably last year. And we all know Pedro's has. The WBC probably just took it's toll on Rollins. For me Vic's selection(I'll take it of course) was a little shaky. He needs to get better on catching the balls that are in front of him. Has anyone ever seen him dive forward?? I haven't.

With Howard improving and with BFran as a backup to Ibanez we don't have any glaring weak spots on D. Sometimes I take that for granted.

Amanda Orr is tops. As usual for her, when a rare error pops up in her posts, she quickly corrects it. She's a good and diligent writer.

Utley was snubbed, and the system is flawed. It seems as though certain winners are almost automatic repeaters. I've seen Utley make plays that no one else makes. Maybe voters don't want to admit that an offensive machine can also be a defensive one. Maybe they're afraid of giving too many honors to one player. Maybe they're all blind.

I agree that Victorino's speed compensates for some poor judgement. He's a great defender, but always looks awkward out there. At least he does finally catch up to almost all the balls he's misread, and he's definitely not asleep, like Werth sometimes appears to be. As far as being "replaceable at a pretty low price," I doubt that a gold glove switch-hitter who's batting average has improved every year, and currently stands at .293, who steals at least twenty bases and stretches singles to doubles and doubles to triples is going to be cheap. Not every player needs to hit home runs; some just need to be on base when the power boys come up.

What we talkin 'bout? We talkin 'bout practice man! Practice? Of course Chase is the man. I hate even brining Cano's name up. He was a ghost in his 1st WS app. I was just doing a little projecting based on Cano's raw talent.

Sorry, but Molina and Ruiz are not the same defns skills wise. Maybe one day Ruiz will be. But the margin is still quite wide between the two. Ruiz has got heart that's for sure. But his pitch calling can be erractic at times. Same goes with his throws to 2nd/3rd base on steal attmpts. Molina is the best in the Bigs. His snap-throw behind the runner at 1st is sick.
