World Series Gameday: Phillies At Yankees, Game 6
Posted by Amanda Orr, Wed, November 04, 2009 08:00 PM
Philadelphia Phillies (2-3) at
New York Yankees (3-2)
Pedro Martinez, RHP (0-1) vs. Andy Pettitte, LHP (1-0)
Time: 7:57 p.m at Yankees Stadium
Weather: Mostly Cloudy, 51 degrees
TV: FOX
Twitter: Phillies Nation
Once again, it’s do or die. Cliff Lee and Chase Utley pushed this series to Game 6. Now, Pedro Martinez is handed the ball needing to further extend the series. A win evens the series and keeps the Phillies’ hopes of repeating alive.
Pedro Martinez lost to the Yankees in Game 2, though he pitched very well. He gave up three runs in six innings, yet tonight is the type of situation where “the most influential player that ever stepped into Yankee Stadium” thrives.
The Phillies offense owe Pedro. He has been excellent during the postseason, but the Phillies failed to provide him with run support. Chase Utley brings in a hot bat and could break Reggie Jackson’s World Series home run record with another dinger tonight. As you recall, Jayson Werth hit two home runs off Pettitte in Game 3.
Unlike Pedro who is pitching on normal rest, Andy Pettitte is pitching on three days’ rest. In his career, Pettitte is 4-6 with a 4.15 ERA on short rest, with his last appearance coming in 2006. He has been perfect (wins-wise) this postseason. He won both clinching games of the postseason this year and he has a chance for another.
It’s a must-win. Keep the high hopes!
Phillies Lineup: Shane Victorino is in the lineup despite having a bruised finger. Raul Ibanez will DH with Ben Francisco in left. Pedro Feliz is batting seventh.
Rollins (SS), Victorino (CF), Utley (2B), Howard (1B), Werth (RF), Ibanez (DH), Feliz (3B), Francisco (LF), Ruiz (C)
Yankees Lineup: Jeter (SS), Damon (LF), Teixeira (1B), Rodriguez (3B), Matsui (DH), Posada (C), Cano (2B), Swisher (RF), Gardner (CF)
GO PHILLIES!
Your Gameday Beer – Baltic Thunder
This dark lager from Victory honors the Baltic god of thunder, and tonight so will the Phillies. Another heavyweight at 8.5% ABV, Baltic Thunder is brewed in the European porter style. With subtle strains of fruit found among the traditional thick roasted toffee and cocoa flavors, this is a porter you can drink more than one of. Tonight order a cheesesteak pizza and get crazy. – By Brian

November 4th, 2009 at 8:21 pm
Believe Phillies Nation…..Believe that our 2009 Phillies have 2 more wins in them in this series…. Believe that Howard will go deep and make the Yanks pay for pitching around Chase to get to him…..Believe that JoeD3 will be ran out of town when his 3day rest strategy blow’s up in his face…Believe Pedro will show N.Y. that they are no longer his Daddy…Believe Shane is ok…Believe the Phils will be patient against Andy….Believe that J-Roll will finally have a break out game in this WS…Believe that our BP will hold the lead… Believe that our season will not end in Game 6….
November 4th, 2009 at 8:35 pm
Nel nome del Padre, del Figlio e dello Spirito Santo. AMEN!
November 4th, 2009 at 8:40 pm
Hello Phaithful! I just heard that Pedro v Andy faced each other 6 times. Split 3-3 and the visitor always won.
November 4th, 2009 at 8:45 pm
The Phillies will win game 6 & 7 and repeat as world champions!!!
November 4th, 2009 at 8:50 pm
let’s go PHILLIES!!!
November 4th, 2009 at 8:50 pm
It pretty exceptional when you think of how the bull pen was on life support, both the darlings of last year (Ligde and Hamels) have had off years, our # 2 starter goes down early in the season that were even at a game 6 against the Hankees with a 1 mill. 38 year stop gap acquired half way thru the season taking the mound. I hope the old goat has that extra gear he’s been saving up ever since we clinced the NL East.
November 4th, 2009 at 8:51 pm
phaith time
November 4th, 2009 at 8:51 pm
Was it just me or did that rendition of the Star Spangled Banner not quite sound worthy of the song? Maybe its just that the Yankees suck and anything the condone does as well. See I’m jaded!
November 4th, 2009 at 8:51 pm
Hope springs eternal….
November 4th, 2009 at 8:52 pm
I believe in the Jheri-Curl Goat
November 4th, 2009 at 8:53 pm
Harry… you just got me so pumped up. LETS GO PHILLIES!
November 4th, 2009 at 8:54 pm
i am really calm for some weird reason…no chemicals invovled
November 4th, 2009 at 8:54 pm
Well here goes and either way it will be a helluva game.
Too bad the Skankees don’t have a long flight to cry on as they go home the losers they will be. BUT it will be better tomorrow when they have to spend a year listening to their loser fans remind them daily of being the losers they are. Does that even make sense??????
November 4th, 2009 at 8:58 pm
Andrew can’t wait to see Hamels in a game 7? I thought something was in the air.
November 4th, 2009 at 8:58 pm
GL boys do what you do best.
November 4th, 2009 at 8:58 pm
LET’S GO PHILLIES (CLAP! CLAP! CLAP-CLAP-CLAP!!)
LET’S GO PHILLIES (CLAP! CLAP! CLAP-CLAP-CLAP!!)
LET’S GO PHILLIES (CLAP! CLAP! CLAP-CLAP-CLAP!!)
November 4th, 2009 at 8:59 pm
Shane gonna bust out
November 4th, 2009 at 8:59 pm
nice Vic
November 4th, 2009 at 9:00 pm
Even with a bad hand, Shane’s still got it!
November 4th, 2009 at 9:00 pm
Well busting not so much but I’ll take it
November 4th, 2009 at 9:02 pm
owie…
That’s OK, we got the first hit of the game, we’re off and running.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:02 pm
blah
November 4th, 2009 at 9:03 pm
only an 8 pitch inning
November 4th, 2009 at 9:03 pm
This Series is going to Game 7. I can feel it.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:04 pm
Come on now Old Goat
November 4th, 2009 at 9:04 pm
Oh he busted alright, busted down the line.
We need to be a little more patient with Pettitte. They have to make him throw pitches. Get him out in the 6th inning and we should be ok.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:05 pm
That was a quick inning. i would of put Werth 3rd tonight. God I wish we had better pitching. Charlie really should of started Happ in this post season. Outside of Lee we suck.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:07 pm
Wow Joe Buck is a c*ck sucker…the Phillies have one mound visit and his response “Are you kidding me?” But he said nothing while the Yankees wore out the grass going to the mound in game 3.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:08 pm
Uh Jeff, Pedro has done very well this post season. His record is a result of the team not hitting at all for him. Happ has been pretty much awful since he came back from injury.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:09 pm
Ed R. – Well done.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:09 pm
Is Pedro’s fastball 84 MPH?
November 4th, 2009 at 9:10 pm
@Keith: Yeah, Phils need to be more patient.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:11 pm
Howard get it going
November 4th, 2009 at 9:11 pm
Ed R…..Agreed.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:12 pm
God, Pettite looks tired and worn out.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:13 pm
13 pitches for Pedro, not bad.
now let’s get those runs.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:13 pm
Ryan is DUE!!!
November 4th, 2009 at 9:14 pm
Alright Pedro good job. Got squeezed on the Tex ab but it worked out.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:15 pm
Just an FYI…Howard is going deep in this at bat.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:15 pm
(Sigh) well, at least Ryan didn’t K.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:15 pm
please let’s do something
November 4th, 2009 at 9:16 pm
come on Ryan, gotta swing at a better pitch in a hitters count!
November 4th, 2009 at 9:16 pm
A for effort, F for totally F’ing wrong. Oh well, I tried.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:18 pm
nice walk Werth
November 4th, 2009 at 9:18 pm
I’ll take a free base.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:19 pm
Come on Raul! First pitch???
November 4th, 2009 at 9:21 pm
Howard and Ibanez need to get some hits today
November 4th, 2009 at 9:22 pm
ugh
November 4th, 2009 at 9:23 pm
Aw crap. But at least we’re working Pettite’s count better.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:23 pm
I’m surprised Posada is catching for Petitte. Molina usually does.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
No, Molina catches for Burnett
November 4th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
Good God, Feliz is terrible at the dish.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
I was thinking of Burnett. Nevermind….
November 4th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
A complete lack of timely hitting is killing this team.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
Tracey and joedad, we need some more of your cheering tonight!
November 4th, 2009 at 9:25 pm
Ibanez swings at a ball over his head. You have 3 strikes per at bat. My god use them. Pedros fastest pitch was 85. scary.
Did you know that when cole pitches this post season. his number of pitches of 1-60 era of 1.50. after 60 pitches 4.50 DEAD ARM
November 4th, 2009 at 9:25 pm
@Rick…..Molina ONLY catches for Burnett. Posada is their main catcher.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:26 pm
Ok guys, we got a game with the Yankees tonight. And that only means one thing. Bad news for the Yankees!
November 4th, 2009 at 9:26 pm
It’s still early… But Feliz had a chance for the early lead….
November 4th, 2009 at 9:26 pm
The bad swings on 3-1 are really hurting the Phillies. They need to make the most out of a hitters count.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:27 pm
Pedro does not look good
November 4th, 2009 at 9:27 pm
Pedro is having some issues locating and when he does paint the corners of the zone the ump is not giving him anything.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:28 pm
Edr…what’s up w/Moyer fastball from Pedro….
November 4th, 2009 at 9:29 pm
is it just me or does pedro look very uncomfortable and does not look good up there.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:29 pm
never mind…he just needs to stretch out
November 4th, 2009 at 9:30 pm
LET’S GO PHILLIES (CLAP! CLAP! CLAP-CLAP-CLAP!!)
LET’S GO PHILLIES (CLAP! CLAP! CLAP-CLAP-CLAP!!)
LET’S GO PHILLIES (CLAP! CLAP! CLAP-CLAP-CLAP!!)
November 4th, 2009 at 9:31 pm
Jeff – Happ’s post season thus far
ip – 5.1 h – 7 er – 4 hr – 1 bb – 5 k -5 era – 6.75 baa – .304
plus his poor starts torwards the end of the season which began after he re-injured his oblique…
November 4th, 2009 at 9:32 pm
I think pedro is playing cat and mouse with his fastball. I’d like to see his two seamer a little more
November 4th, 2009 at 9:32 pm
Pedro is ok. He HAS to be so stop worrying. He is taking his time throwing deliberate pitches. And like somone said he is not getting all the strike calls. LET’S GO PHILLIES!
November 4th, 2009 at 9:33 pm
Pedro’s fastball has definitely taken a dive in the MPH department since he came on board. In his first start he was hovering around 89-91 now its averaging like 85. It is somewhat concerning but if he can locate and use the zone he should be ok. But this ump is giving him absolutely nothing.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:33 pm
Pedro has nothing tonight
November 4th, 2009 at 9:33 pm
whoops
November 4th, 2009 at 9:33 pm
or not.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:34 pm
oh boy…
November 4th, 2009 at 9:34 pm
I said yesterday that Pedro should not pitch to Matsui at all, the guy absolutely owns him like nothing I have ever seen before.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:34 pm
as i said, is it just be or does pedro look just weak.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:34 pm
GET UP OUT OF THE GAME AND PUT HAPP IN. 85 WILL NOT CUT IT.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:34 pm
we can only say that the first team to score has lost 3 out of the 5 games.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:35 pm
boy pedro pitched scared to arod and matsui
November 4th, 2009 at 9:35 pm
Its OK fellas, we knew this would be a slugfest. Time to respond
November 4th, 2009 at 9:36 pm
when is pettite going to start looking weak?? please??
November 4th, 2009 at 9:36 pm
damn game 4
November 4th, 2009 at 9:36 pm
The speed of the pitch has nothing to do with it. Guys win games all the time by locating and getting guys to ground or fly out.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:36 pm
Yankees are working his pitch count. Something the Phillies should have done to Andy.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:37 pm
Raise your hand if you have faith that this team will produce enough offense to win
November 4th, 2009 at 9:37 pm
We got 5 innings to get 2 runs…
November 4th, 2009 at 9:37 pm
Yeah, I don;t get the calls for Happ. He hasn’t pitched well in a while.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:38 pm
::damnwellraised::
November 4th, 2009 at 9:38 pm
Also if he can induce some ground balls out that be great
November 4th, 2009 at 9:38 pm
Ed R….Agreed. Especially when you do not get the strike calls you want. And remember…Phillies were up 3 zip until the camera incident.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:39 pm
Francisco, Ruiz, and Rollins
let’s go!!!
November 4th, 2009 at 9:39 pm
Maybe the second time around, the Phillies will be more patient!
November 4th, 2009 at 9:39 pm
HAND UP!
November 4th, 2009 at 9:39 pm
Wow if I could never see Taylor Swift on anything ever again that would be fantastic.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:40 pm
Pedro at 37 pitches
November 4th, 2009 at 9:41 pm
Terri is so right. Thru 2 innings: Pettitte, 24 pitches; Pedro, 37 pitches
At this pace, I’ll be shocked if Pedro gets out to the 5th. We gotta start working Andy.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:41 pm
Swift needs to eat a damn cheeseburger.
Anyway, who was the guy who sang the national anthem today?
November 4th, 2009 at 9:42 pm
Both hands up!
November 4th, 2009 at 9:42 pm
Ed R.- that’s why I was hoping to see that two seamer (what i thought was a 2 seamer) in LA. It can induce alot of GB.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:43 pm
yeah Francisco is ice cold
November 4th, 2009 at 9:43 pm
Swift needs to eat a double quarter pounder with cheese.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:43 pm
if the ump keeps squeezing Pedro on the corners it will be a long nite. I thought the 2nd pitch before the homer should’ve been called strike 3. I’d feel better if Charlie wasn’t so stubborn. Why put that Lineup out there. It gives AP a chance to wiggle his way thru at min 5 inngs maybe 6. Rollins, Vic, Chase, Werth, Ruiz(2ks/16abs), Raull(9ks/20abs), Feliz, Ben Fran(seems overwhelmed by the bright lights)….
November 4th, 2009 at 9:43 pm
Francisco just swung at ball 3…c’mon, better decisions phils…
November 4th, 2009 at 9:44 pm
You all know we can get these runs back and then some, oh yes we can!!!
November 4th, 2009 at 9:44 pm
that was generous ump. i hope pedro get that call on the corner
November 4th, 2009 at 9:44 pm
The Phillies need to knock the snot out of Pettite!
November 4th, 2009 at 9:45 pm
captain clutch cooch
November 4th, 2009 at 9:45 pm
solid triple by Ruiz, damn thought that was gonna be a HR
November 4th, 2009 at 9:45 pm
CHOOCH!!! WAY TO TURN ON THE JETS!
November 4th, 2009 at 9:45 pm
CHOOOOOOCCCCCHHHHHH!!!!!!
November 4th, 2009 at 9:45 pm
chooch*
November 4th, 2009 at 9:45 pm
Chooch can hit .150 during the regular season for the next 6 years, and I’d still give him good money to keep him locked up
November 4th, 2009 at 9:46 pm
Come on J-Roll, just give me a single, or a sac fly. Something, anything to get this going.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:47 pm
ok, there’s one!
November 4th, 2009 at 9:47 pm
OK…1 RUN BACK…KEEP IT GOING.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:47 pm
Alright J-Roll, well done.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:47 pm
nice sac fly Jimmy
November 4th, 2009 at 9:47 pm
ok, playa!
November 4th, 2009 at 9:47 pm
That’s one back!
November 4th, 2009 at 9:48 pm
Great Job Chooch and Jroll. Vic why are you swinging at the first pitch. Let Andy make pitches.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:48 pm
I’m glad we got a run back, but I’m pissed that Victorino swung on the first pitch after. That’s not working Pettite…come on man.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:48 pm
Good Job by Jimmy, but what is this team fascination with swinging at the first pitch. WORK the FREAKING pitch COUNT!!
November 4th, 2009 at 9:49 pm
WTF Victorino…first pitch? Really?
Someone needs to tell this lineup that unless they want 7 IP of Pettitte and 2 IP of Mo they need to work the G.D count. This is ridiculous.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:49 pm
it’d be real nice if Utley (against Pettitte), Howard, and Ibanez can get going in the 4th.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:49 pm
I think Pedro’s feeling a little overwhelmed with emotion, he needs to forget where he is and just pitch like he’s capable of.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:50 pm
Pettitte is only up to 37 pitches now; Pedro is at 38 on his first pitch of the bottom half.
LET’S HAVE A QUICK 1-2-3 now, with #8 and #9 yankees up.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:50 pm
Why did Victorino swing at the first pitch there? He knows the key is to work the count with him…
November 4th, 2009 at 9:52 pm
nice strikeout there. now do the same with Jeter and Damon…need a quick inning here.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:53 pm
Great, first you swing at the first pitch of an at bat and then you completely misplay a pretty simple fly ball. Well done Rino.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:53 pm
ughhh shane we do not want to give them any baserunners
November 4th, 2009 at 9:53 pm
Damn.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:55 pm
damn Vic. Dive forward b*th! It cost us in Game 3. Now again tonite.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:56 pm
tired of the who’s ur daddy chants . . .
November 4th, 2009 at 9:57 pm
Pedro might be lucky to go 5-6 innings at this rate. Can we please get a GIDP.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:57 pm
Pedro’s gonna last like 4 innings.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:59 pm
Damon swung at that 2-2 pitch. That was a BS call by the ump.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:59 pm
if pedro does not get out of this inning without giving up a run, time to go to the BP.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:59 pm
now i really think he’s pitching scared
November 4th, 2009 at 9:59 pm
ump says call me O.J.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:00 pm
oh my
November 4th, 2009 at 10:00 pm
ut oh
November 4th, 2009 at 10:00 pm
jeez – pedro is stinking it up. not good.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:00 pm
OMG.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:00 pm
I don’t even want to watch this.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:01 pm
love watching this team collapse ,, its a beautiful thing
November 4th, 2009 at 10:03 pm
Trolls are back – let me rephrase – C.H.U.D.’s are back.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:04 pm
about time he gets a call on the corner.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:04 pm
YES!
November 4th, 2009 at 10:04 pm
great strikeout…but please one more here….PLEASE!
November 4th, 2009 at 10:04 pm
Clearly a ball but I’ll take it.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:05 pm
take’em out Charlie
November 4th, 2009 at 10:05 pm
That was a make up call for damon… I’ll take it
November 4th, 2009 at 10:05 pm
well he got robbed on that 3-2 call with Damon but drilling tex…bad. we need a break here…just a ground ball to tol someone in the infield
November 4th, 2009 at 10:05 pm
Why did they NEVER show that homeplate shot in Game 2 when Burnett was getting his pitches 6 inches off the plate for strikes??
November 4th, 2009 at 10:07 pm
might have been the game
November 4th, 2009 at 10:07 pm
still manageable if Howard shows up
November 4th, 2009 at 10:07 pm
yum
November 4th, 2009 at 10:07 pm
Sorry Charlie but you blew it big time letting him pitch to Matsui. Big time.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:07 pm
Why the F*ck did they not pull him!!??
November 4th, 2009 at 10:08 pm
I’m done. Good night everyone! See you next season.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:08 pm
oh, nooooo….
November 4th, 2009 at 10:08 pm
DAMMIT!! F*CK. Take him out now. Terrible pitch selection. Ruiz called it, so its on him too. 0-2 and that’s what he calls…idiot.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:10 pm
Blame Victorino for that debacle of an inning? Pedro has some contribution but, c’mon!
November 4th, 2009 at 10:10 pm
Time to pull Pedro
November 4th, 2009 at 10:11 pm
Well, its time for the offense to work the count and score some runs…like 5.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:12 pm
Look we all knew the bats would have to win this. 3 runs on Petite is more than possible.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:13 pm
The series, not the game, is on the line here. If they come back from this, in NY, there’s no way they lose tomorrow. Big if though.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:13 pm
blah blah
November 4th, 2009 at 10:13 pm
Pedro will be back out there. He isn’t done yet.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:14 pm
damn Gozilla has killed us
November 4th, 2009 at 10:15 pm
Happ should of pitched to General Tsos chicken. He owns pedro. Bring the lefty in old man its the end of our season. pedro never had it. my god.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:15 pm
Yeah but they need at minimum 5 now.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:15 pm
Godzilla*
and our LH hitters suck against Pettitte. not looking good, c’mon Phillies!!!
November 4th, 2009 at 10:16 pm
We are so screwed now. It sounds like Rivera will be coming in in the 7th inning, based on what Girardi just said.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:16 pm
Howard’s swing looks good…but were not getting the breaks …line drive right to cano…what can you do
November 4th, 2009 at 10:17 pm
pitch count?
November 4th, 2009 at 10:17 pm
3 runs on Pettite is definitely possible. We just need to work the PC.. the later it gets for Andy, the more worn down he’ll get. This lead is absolutely not out-of-reach. Charlie’s got to keep the spirits high in the dug-out.
Disheartening that Pedro didn’t have more to give us. Happ is probably on the mound to start the next inning. I hope he can keep us close…. funny, pitching always ends up winning championships..
November 4th, 2009 at 10:18 pm
Werth’s walks are kinda pointless if Utley, Howard, and Ibanez just suck against Pettitte.
come on Rauuul please
November 4th, 2009 at 10:18 pm
J Reed – what you can do is elevate it a little more. I know, we’re just not getting the breaks.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:18 pm
Let’s Go Phillies! Let’s GO Phillies!! Let’s GO PHILLIES!!!!!
November 4th, 2009 at 10:19 pm
nice running by Werth. gotta bring him home…c’mon Raul!
November 4th, 2009 at 10:20 pm
High Hopes, everyone.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:21 pm
Gotta make them pay for the walks
November 4th, 2009 at 10:21 pm
What the F–K is a short leash, Chollie ? I guess it’s facing a guy in a bases -loaded situation in the 3rd who has already hit a two-run homer off you in the first as well as a homer in previous game. That’s the worst decision he has made all year
and he has made a few.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:21 pm
Feliz – please work it a little bit. No first pitch outs… C’mon, you can do it! High Hopes.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:22 pm
Jeff that’s plain stupid…Aside from his horrid numbers he has posted since he reinjured himself you want to put a rookie who honestly has had deer eyes in ever post season appearance he has made thus far, into that stituation
November 4th, 2009 at 10:23 pm
fail
November 4th, 2009 at 10:23 pm
they have to take advantage of opportunities like that.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:24 pm
F*Ck we’re done.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:25 pm
Charlie and Dubey have no clue how to run our bullpen. Why would you let Pedro who has nothing pitch to the lefty. Now he is going to come back out. Start Happ with nobody on.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:26 pm
Never have I been so sorry to be right–I picked the Yankees in 6 from the very beginning. See you all in April.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:27 pm
Somebody want to call New York and let the Phillies know the game started an hour and a half ago?
November 4th, 2009 at 10:27 pm
YES I DO. Pedro is throwing scared and 85/
November 4th, 2009 at 10:27 pm
This is one thing I have hated all season is Feliz 7th. More ABs should go to Ruiz, not that guy.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:27 pm
damn game 4
November 4th, 2009 at 10:27 pm
Why is Pedro still in there?
November 4th, 2009 at 10:29 pm
Why does a guy get to walk up to the ump after the inning and clearly argue bulls and strikes with him but nothing happens?
November 4th, 2009 at 10:30 pm
Well .. all the RBIs are off of Matsui’s bat. Pedro was nibbling with the heart of the order and Matsui’s made him pay twice. I sincerely doubt he makes it back to Matsui’s spot again. But now with the bottom of the order, Pedro should be able to give us another 3 outs. Happ’s stuff hasn’t exactly been electric .. so, we don’t know if Happ comes in if he gives us anything different. I’d imagine he’ll be taking the ball next inning against the big bats.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:30 pm
Good AB by feliz the batted balls in play are just finding fielders. Petite still doesn’t look that great but he’s getting the breaks and were not…We are for the most part doing the things we need to do to improve our odds except for swinging at a few ball fours. This is why the 1-2 pitchiing punch is necessary for the WS. But the Baseball Gods may grant us a comeback yet.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
I didn’t realize they just shortened MLB games to 4 innings, because that’s the only way this game is over, C’MON people, how can you jump ship now????? Why does it feel like I’ve said this 1000 times this season?
November 4th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
Any pitcher tonight has to nibbled
November 4th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
If the Phils do comeback and win the whole thing, all the naysayers here are not allowed to come to the parade.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
Francisco, Ruiz, and Rollins next inning
November 4th, 2009 at 10:32 pm
I think the Phils need to start hitting balls out of the infield in order to get a comeback going. They are looking lifeless at the plate. Not makign the most out of the counts they are getting.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:32 pm
Georgie: Because you have. There’s a hell of a lot of flakes amongst the Philly “faithful” …
November 4th, 2009 at 10:32 pm
Well if God is going to grand us a comeback, he better get to work, fast.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:34 pm
The Phillies have 3 innings to get something going. Rivera will be coming in the 8th, maybe even the 7th.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:34 pm
Yes! 1-2-3 for Pedro – now let’s hit and score! Lot’s of game left here – LOTS!
November 4th, 2009 at 10:34 pm
we need some hits and runs this inning. let’s have everyone bat.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:34 pm
Phillies need to string those hits together! Everybody Hits this inning!!! Please……….!!?!!
November 4th, 2009 at 10:35 pm
FillyP, agreed….
November 4th, 2009 at 10:35 pm
Pedro is not exactly getting rocked … Only three hits given up, for god’s sake. Phillies are stranding runners!
November 4th, 2009 at 10:35 pm
Ok. Top of the 5th – Phils gotta get these runs back NOW. We got 6-7 outs left to play with here. NOW OR NEVER FELLAS!
Go Phils…Go Phils!!
November 4th, 2009 at 10:35 pm
the walks have hurt Pedro, the walks have not hurt Pettitte.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:35 pm
Ok, I just changed my t-shirt. I went from my white “Get me to the plate” shirt to my red one. Gotta change the mojo.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:36 pm
godzira!!!! I hate thee
November 4th, 2009 at 10:36 pm
we have 5 innings to produce.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:37 pm
Yeah – I have to agree, Phils look a little tight at the plate. They’ve shown some good, patient ABs.. but overall they’re not jumping on their opportunities. Lots of lazy flys too. Still got plenty of baseball left though. LET’S GO FIGHTINS!!!
November 4th, 2009 at 10:37 pm
i think i would rather have ibanez in left and stairs dh
November 4th, 2009 at 10:37 pm
and Francisco has sucked this series
November 4th, 2009 at 10:37 pm
well pat i agree but Feliz had a decent ab…worked up the pitch count…with 2 outs and 2 men on, 3-2 count you got be in protect mode because going down on on strike three is bad…got to at least put the ball in play.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:38 pm
Ben Francisco is a WASTE. Might as well have Bruntlett there. (yes, i know he doesn’t play the outfield).
November 4th, 2009 at 10:38 pm
Excuse prease. Hail pie?
November 4th, 2009 at 10:38 pm
francisco was good in the regular season, but not so much this postseason. Perhaps as a lack of too mant at-bats?
November 4th, 2009 at 10:38 pm
I’m really looking forward to us getting a better bench next season
November 4th, 2009 at 10:39 pm
cant we all be like chooch.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:39 pm
ok. chooch delivers. patience pays off.
C’mon J-Roll…
November 4th, 2009 at 10:39 pm
Here We Go Phillies! Here We Go! Here We Go Phillies!! Here We Go!!!
November 4th, 2009 at 10:39 pm
Come on people, remember all the times you gave up on the team and all the times they came back?
November 4th, 2009 at 10:39 pm
Great AB Chooch. Make ol’ HGH pay for all these walks! Let’s go Phils!!!
November 4th, 2009 at 10:40 pm
Here We Go Phillies! Here We Go! Here We Go Phillies!! Here We Go!!!
November 4th, 2009 at 10:40 pm
PHILS IN 7 !!!!!!!!!! No problem.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:40 pm
Ok, this could be the start of Chooch-vember.
Chooch is hitting well in the 9th hole so far.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:40 pm
get on j roll we need some base runners.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:41 pm
The problem is the Phils tried to jump on Pettit instead of being patient and gettiitch count up! Now he is in a zos the ump is cheating us on the corners so its over! Rivera for 2 and all of fake @ss america gat they want!
November 4th, 2009 at 10:41 pm
well that’s just bad
November 4th, 2009 at 10:41 pm
Season over
November 4th, 2009 at 10:42 pm
Way to bail them out again boys.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:42 pm
doesnt look good.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:42 pm
I really hope jimmy doesn’t lead off next year
November 4th, 2009 at 10:42 pm
we just can’t get more than 1 run when Pedro starts in the playoffs
c’mon Phillies. 4 innings left
November 4th, 2009 at 10:43 pm
what can you do with that….how many dp opps have we had this series. The breaks are going their way in the field and they haven’t made mistakes
November 4th, 2009 at 10:43 pm
This game is over. Rollins, Howard, Fran, Feliz, Ibanz are lifeless. Rollins up there hacking at everything. Starting Pedro was a huge mistake in the cold weather.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:43 pm
You want beef an BROCKERY?
November 4th, 2009 at 10:44 pm
Does philliesnation have viruses? I am seriously lagging here today
November 4th, 2009 at 10:45 pm
We are SO F*CKED. 2nd DP of the night. DAMMIT.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:45 pm
Time to start working on getting a good load on.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:45 pm
Ouch. That one was bad. I think the 6th and 7th INN will decide this game.
Told you that Charlie was just letting Pedro handle the bottom of the order…
Anyone feel comfortable down 3 runs going into the 8th against Mo? We hit him around a little in game 2, but he’s really shut it down since. Then again, what was that they said about Street, Sherrill and Broxton? Un-hittable?
November 4th, 2009 at 10:46 pm
well that’s just dandy
November 4th, 2009 at 10:46 pm
Who would you have started Jeff G.? Blanton on short rest? Lee on short rest? Happ who looks awful? Hamels? Enough said. What other choice did Charlie have?
November 4th, 2009 at 10:47 pm
it is starting to become a reality, if they score here it will be over.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:47 pm
Pitching decides championships. We’re really getting ourselves into a deep hole… come on PHILLY, FIGHT BACK! Let’s go!
November 4th, 2009 at 10:47 pm
problem is can we keep it at 3?
November 4th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
Well at least the throw to first did not go down the first base line. That is a positive.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
yea this game sucks
November 4th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
I would of started Happ tonight. He is pro. Were praising him. pedro and this bullpen suck
November 4th, 2009 at 10:50 pm
This is the first bad game Pedro has had all year.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:51 pm
All I know is…start making Pettitte work a liiiiiiittle more and we get into their bullpen.
Whom we’ve gotten to know pre-tty well over the week.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:51 pm
It ain’t over but it looks grim.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
Yea, it looks like they used up all their energy making sure the Yankees did not win it in Philadelphia. They just have no zip to them tonight. Maybe with the heart of the order coming up, they can do something. But they need to get through this inning first.
Great inning Durbin. You earned yourself almost half a beer.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
WHAT THE ,(&%#?
November 4th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
@Morris: Looks like he only earned 1/3 beer.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
Manuel has got to be the dumbest manager in the world. Only an idiot would have let Pedro pitch to Matsui with the bases loaded after the swings he’s had off of him. Not starting Lee in Game 4, bringing in Lidge in Game 4, taking Victorino out in Game 5…the list goes on and on. The bottom line though is we need to get better pitching in the offseason. No one has stepped up other than Lee, and that’s not going to win you a World Series.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
Will someone please call the Phillies Dugout and remind them they are the FIGHTENS!!!!!!
November 4th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
damn games 3 & 4
November 4th, 2009 at 10:55 pm
OK, J: Here’s your chance to shine. Keep us in this one.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:56 pm
Package Durbin in with Francisco on a ticket out of town. worthless.
Man, I miss JC Romero now. Typically Philly luck, our “inadvertent” supplement user is out most of the year with injuries while Yankees super-dopers (ARoid and Pettitte) are key contributors.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:56 pm
Oh well, I thought the Phils would at least show some fight in this game.
Rollins = unaaceptable, Victorino misplays the ball in center off of CAPTAIN JETER= unacceptable. Matsui is their DH. We have Mr.0 for career Francisco who can’t make a catch in left field.
THIS GREAT HITTING TEAM cannot touch Andy Pettite on 3 days rest.
Wait til next year and I hope I see the last of Feliz, Hamels, Myers, and that great bench of Stairs, Bruntlett and Bako. Oh and you can take Durbin with them.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:56 pm
losing faith every pitch that is thrown now.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
Sorry Nation, the Yanks appear to want it more than our boys. It was going to be the battle of the pens tonight, but we could not chase Pettite early so herer we are.
I think the weak link was Cole. It tied-up Charlie and he had to cobble together a rotation. Lee came here to be the second in the rotation and pitched like an ace. Cole wilted. What if we had the World Series MVP back and Lee pitching like he has. Shoulda, coulda, woulda.
I still love this team and will not count them out until this game is over. I like their chances for another pennant in ‘10 and will be right back at the Bank cheering them on.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
Man Durbin came thru big this post season and I believe had gotten sick once the world series started. In every relief appearance Happ hasn’t thrown 1 first pitch strike
November 4th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
Oh fer pity’s sake… The fielding is just atrocious tonight…
November 4th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
Well, now you guys can be as negative as you want. Pitching is our demise. If it makes you feel any better – I lost money on this too.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
Maybe they should pitch around Matsui.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
Na, na, na, na. Hey, hey, hey…
November 4th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
See you next year guys! About to change the channel…
November 4th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
and that’s that, Godzilla has killed us.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
That was a hard hit ball in the gap. Couldn’t have done anything with it.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:00 pm
Well I am disappointed with this game and the pending result but I am anything but disappointed with this team. What this team did this year was fantastic. They are a great team and not all great teams win a World Series every year. Thank you 2009 Phillies. See you next year.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:00 pm
there is a mets fan actually saying something? now that is one the funniest things ive ever seen. and the fat lady is warming up.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:00 pm
Maybe some other time Phillies Fans. OH BABY..
November 4th, 2009 at 11:00 pm
sorry to say, but it looks like its over
November 4th, 2009 at 11:02 pm
Godzilla will get MVP
November 4th, 2009 at 11:02 pm
Stick a fork in the Phlat Phils / Sillies.
NY Yankees ….. 27 World Championships !!
Yankees Win ….. THEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE YANKEEEEEEEEEES WIN !!!
November 4th, 2009 at 11:02 pm
OK, seriously guys, time to turn on those Phillies bats!
November 4th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
David the Mutts fan from Queens:
First, enjoy the next 6 months of Yankees fans getting in your grill. You have nowhere to go and your team will always be second place in NYC.
Second, the Mutts are so messed up – no farm system, bad contracts, terrible GM and pathetic manager still in place – you are looking at 3rd to 5th place NL East finishes for the next several years.
So back at you, A*Shole. Na Na Na Na.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:04 pm
Don’t be bitter, Stuart. I’m glad that my comment has given you some solace.
I take as much pleasure in watching your Phillies get bombed by Hideki Matsui as you do in watching me post something.
We’re both happy!
November 4th, 2009 at 11:04 pm
There is no fight in this team tonight. Seem like they quit early.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:04 pm
GOODNIGHT. SEE YA NEXT YEAR. A LOT OF HOLES NEED TO BE FILLED ON THIS TEAM. START WITH A NEW CLOSER AND SOME STARTING PITCHING. BYE PEDRO. BYE MOYER. HAMMELS SUX TOO. GREAT RIDE FOR THIS TEAM THIS YEAR BUR YANKEES MUCH BETTER.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:04 pm
Other than Cliff Lee and Pedros first start in the WS, the Phillies have gotten absolutely no good pitching. Nothing. Blanton was average. Hamels is a whining jerk off that I really dont want in our city anymore. Hes not a worker, just a primadonna – SELL on him while they still can.
I thought they could beat this team, but they are getting HUMILIATED. This is disgraceful to lose to these MERCENARIES. The Phillies have a 5-man rotation of:
Clifff Lee
Pedro (he is actually our second best starter, scary, and hes a free agent)
NOTHING (Hamels, but Hamels is worthless and QUIT on this team)
Blanton (fine as a back end starter)
Happ (IS HE EVEN A STARTER ANYMORE? I say Sell high on him)
The Phillies need a second and 3rd starter. I dont even know what Hamels is, and I dont even care what he is actually. They have an ace, and a few back end starters. SOme of these guys really got exposed: Happ, Hamels.
Theyd better spend some money or trade some good hitting prospects away because they need a WHOLE lot more pitching than theyve got if they want to beat a team like this.
As far as tonight, good luck getting all those runs off Andy Pettite and Rivera.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:05 pm
blah blah, April 5 is so far away . . .
November 4th, 2009 at 11:05 pm
Hey, come on phans, best chance to turn on the hits is with the top of the order coming up against Pettite after a long sit. You really think they’ll let the season end this way? Be positive! And that’s bad if I’M saying that because I thought they wouldn’t even make the playoffs! Have some faith! If they lose, well, would thinking they’ll lose all along make you feel any better?
November 4th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
LET’S GO PHILS!!
LET’S GO PHILS!!
November 4th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
I am a Mets Fan and I was pulling for the Phillies all the way. And I do know you can NEVER count out the Phillies! This game is not over yet! Go Phillies!!!!!
November 4th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
Start spreading the news …..
The Phillies are toast ….
I want to be a part of it ! New York ! New York !
**27 Championships. And to knock off Philly makes it that much sweeter. All the talk of the “AL line up” that we had to endure the past 10 days. Besides Utley I didnt see anyone else show up to these games.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:08 pm
How pathetic must your life be that you have nothing better to do than make bad jokes on message board because another team is losing? Is your life really that empty? If it is, I feel sorry for you. Your joyless existence must be pretty sad.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:08 pm
Pitchers and catchers report in 110 days!
November 4th, 2009 at 11:08 pm
somehow we need to add some runs up there.. get closer
November 4th, 2009 at 11:09 pm
it aint over yet but were just about to flat line. The bats haven’t shone up tonight and we all knew we didn’t have the pitching to make it thru the Yankees twice. Unfortunately Hamels was the lynch pin …But if we go down lets get some more nimbers on the board. Christ that went right to Jeter.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
YEAH RYAN! Okay, gap closing, let’s get more, boys!
November 4th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
Now he hits a home run. 5 games too late.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
We needed you earlier Howard!!
November 4th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
thank you Howard for finally showing up!
damn Durbin/Happ for giving up those runs last inning.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:13 pm
The Phillies WILL come back!!!!
November 4th, 2009 at 11:13 pm
RAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULLLL!!!
November 4th, 2009 at 11:14 pm
LET’S GO PHILS!!!
BEAT NEW YORK!!!
LET’S GO PHILS!!!
BEAT NEW YORK!!!
November 4th, 2009 at 11:14 pm
Last year when the Phillies won the World Series, I was out at a bar with all of my friends. And when the Phillies won, I partied all night long. I was not at a Tampa Bay Rays website telling pathetic joke.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:14 pm
Aaaannnddddd HERE COME THE FIGHTINS!!
LET’S GO PHILLY
November 4th, 2009 at 11:15 pm
I could not get on here for a few minutes. Why did they put Durbin in?
November 4th, 2009 at 11:15 pm
And please get rid of Pedro Feliz. He has been useless, utterly useless at the plate.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:15 pm
@morris, what do you expect people to do? this is a sports related message board. people go on them to discuss sports and to talk trash. if you were looking for something else, you should probably go talk sports with friends in a more neutral environment. I’m not trying to give you a hard time, I’m just stating what I thought was common knowledge about the purpose and/or actual usage of sports blogs.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:16 pm
Well if you had been Morris, you would have probably been the only one there. \
November 4th, 2009 at 11:16 pm
High hopes fellas. Let’s make em pay for counting us out
November 4th, 2009 at 11:16 pm
Now, that all said. I dont want the season to be over tonight. PLEASE PLEASE come back and win.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:16 pm
ALL WE NEEDED!!!! WOW DID THE PHILLIES NATION STOP CRYING ALL READY!!!! CHRIST!!!!! I KNEW OUR OFFENSE WOULD WAKE UP!!
November 4th, 2009 at 11:17 pm
Christ, guys, you’re acting like I was in mid-September. Except Tracey. Even Mets Fan is more positive about the Phils than most everyone here (no offense, Mets Fan). What the hell? At least wait to see how the game plays out before crucifying anyone, please.
j reed, you better use that scientology witchcraft you picked up when you told us you’d become a scientologist if they got a hit with the bases loaded, which Werth did the next at-bat.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:17 pm
Can these jackass announcers be any more biased towards the Yankees. They outta put on frickin Yankee caps and make it official. Let’s go Phils!
November 4th, 2009 at 11:17 pm
You are soooo right Morris. Now we know why it is called the Big Crapple…….
November 4th, 2009 at 11:17 pm
Ok, now theyve got a few innings before RIvera to get those runs back. Chamberlain is messed up in the head. Feliz need to drive this run in to stay on the team.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:18 pm
LET’S GO PEDRO, LET’S GO!
LET’S GO PEDRO, LET’S GO!
November 4th, 2009 at 11:18 pm
Congratulations to the Yankees for what should end up being a 27th W.S. Although I despise you, you have played great. Congrats to the phils and their fans. You made it to two W.S. in a row. Enjoy it. Some of us who root for crap teams (cough…the mets) haven’t seen anything but misery for years. At least you have a pretty good nucleus and a bright future in the minors. I may hate thee phillies, but I must respect what you have accomplished.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:18 pm
Come on, Phils, rattle Jabba
November 4th, 2009 at 11:18 pm
Im a Mets fan who has been pulling for the Phillies so not all of us are against Philly. The one way I looked at this series is one of these teams had to lose and the Phillies are the lesser of two evils. Maybe I am out of place to be posting, but Ive seen the Phillies fight back again and again. This game is not over yet ! After all the Phillies have done the last 3 years Im amazed to see some fans giving up.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:18 pm
LETS GO PHILS! LETS GO PHILS! HARRY KALAS clap clap clapclapclap
HARRY KALAS clap clap clapclapclapHARRY KALAS clap clap clapclapclapHARRY KALAS clap clap clapclapclap
November 4th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
ugh. That’s OK: if we get 2 runs every inning for the rest of the game without bleeding any more, we win.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:20 pm
I’m with Geoff – get rid of Feliz. He’s grounded out to 3rd twice tonite with runners on to end innings. Game 4 was an anomaly for him.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:20 pm
Ok. First move off the offseason: Buyout and release Pedro Feliz. Like, 5 minutes after the season is over (hopefully tomorrow night)
Now…..they must get a few runs in the 7th to gain momentum heading into Mariano Rivera
November 4th, 2009 at 11:20 pm
Good shot by Howard. On a serious note, is there any 3B on the market who might be a better hitter and fielder than Feliz?
November 4th, 2009 at 11:20 pm
it’d be real nice if Mo just sucks tonight.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:20 pm
….channeling the 2008 World Champion Phillies playing in Game 5….
November 4th, 2009 at 11:21 pm
Believe.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:21 pm
Didn’t get to Pettitte early enough. His location was off; five walks; a couple hard outs. I’m afraid there aren’t enough outs between now and Rivera.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:22 pm
I am with you guys though in that this is NOT over. Its not gonna be easy. BUt 4 runs is close enough to strike. The bullpen MUST hold firm. I feel that if they give up anymore runs then the season is over. They must d their job.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:22 pm
Feliz; 0 for 3 so far in this gaem with 4 runners stranded. All field and very little hit.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:22 pm
@Harry: Yup, in the words of the Tugger, ya gotta believe!
November 4th, 2009 at 11:23 pm

November 4th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
Rivera can’t be perfect. He can have bad nights too.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
Is it just me or is Nick Swisher getting uglier?
November 4th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
Wow, tremendous effort by Francisco! He knows it ain’t over ’til it’s over!
November 4th, 2009 at 11:24 pm
Win or lose great season. Can’t give up hope till its over. I am dissapointed in all the negativity about this guy sucks that guy sucks. If they sucked we would not be where we are. Take your t-shirt back to the store and get off the wagon. Where has everyone been when this team was really bad now we have a winner and everyone wants to be a fan. Ugh am so mad at all the armchair GM’S in here.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:24 pm
i hate swisher. what a dope.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:24 pm
I BELIEVE. I KNOW HARRY BELIEVES. I KNOW THE PHILLIES PHAITHFUL BELIEVE!
November 4th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
Rivera is due to blow another postseason save. I can only remember him blowing like, um, one save in 2001 against Arizone in Game 7.
I think the Phillies are due to be there while he blows another. But they have to be down to one or two runs by then. Even if he blows a save Rivera probly wont give up more than one or two runs if they can get to him.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
next inning starts with Francisco, ut oh.
and Happ has been terrible this postseason too.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
Feliz had a 2 good AB and made contact it just went to AROD twice. Stilll I wouldn’t mind an up-grade. Nice effort by Francisco. the bad AB that inning was Werth. that was a 1-2 count cookie. Get Happ out of there Charlie
November 4th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
!!!LET’S GO PHILS!!!

November 4th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
Sigh. Leadoff walk is not the way to a shutdown inning, James Anthony. Git ‘r’ done!
November 4th, 2009 at 11:26 pm
Sam, I agree with you. Although Feliz is a great fielder, the Phils need to upgrade to a more consistent better hitting third baseman for next season
November 4th, 2009 at 11:26 pm
DO IT FOR HARRY!
DO IT FOR RICHIE!!!
November 4th, 2009 at 11:27 pm
leadoff walks have been killing us the entire series.
what to think in the offseason? on the down side, phils lose but still get the shortest offseason of any NL team by several weeks. Look how much drop off we had this April after all of last year. Big problem towards repeating as NL Champs next year.
On the positive side, at least these guys won’t be going to as many dinners, appearances, commercials, etc. – maybe they’ll actually rest up and be ready for spring training, motivated.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:27 pm
Don’t forget Gary!
November 4th, 2009 at 11:27 pm
Do they bring back Myers after he called out little golden boy Hamels like that? I actually LIKED that he called him out. I think I would rather have someone who works hard and cares about his craft with less talent (Myers) than Cole Hamels (no work ethic, all coasting – please trade).
CCome on Happ. Show us you belong on this team next year, get these guys out.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:28 pm
Pedro Feliz cannot return to this team. He has faded so badly and has given very little in the postseason.
On the other hand, High Hopes, everyone. We can STILL do this. How many times have we seen a 4 run inning from them?
November 4th, 2009 at 11:28 pm
Sam, Chone Figgins is supposed to be on the market and he can play 3rd. I would love to see the Phillies make a move for him.
I used to work with a Mets fan, and he said the reason he hated the Phillies the most is that when the Phillies are down by 3 in the 7th inning, they feel like they have the opposing team right where they want them.
Well, the Phillies are down 4 right now. They have the Yankees right where they want them.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:29 pm

November 4th, 2009 at 11:29 pm
Next year can we get some pitch to contact guys like a sinkerballer or two.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:29 pm
NO CHARLIE …… NOOOOOOOO!
November 4th, 2009 at 11:30 pm
Not sure I want the Phillies to spend $55 mil on Figgins. There has to be a cheaper option out there. Atkins had a bad year, but the guy has proven to be a 25-90 guy with decent defense.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:31 pm
I don’t get it. Happ looked more than fine.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:31 pm
I would not be surprised to see Myers end up with a 1 year incentive laden contract here.
But we can talk about the offseason after the parade.
Time for Chan HOOOOOOOOOOOO!

November 4th, 2009 at 11:32 pm
That Seth Everett dude changed his mind about the series winner like three times now, and today he said no way can the Phils hit Rivera, so he’s full of crap as far as I’m concerned, meaning they CAN hit MO.
Nick Swisher is already as ugly as you can get.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:33 pm
@Mike: Which jersey?
November 4th, 2009 at 11:33 pm
152 days until the 2010 season starts, that’s a long time.
come on Phillies!
November 4th, 2009 at 11:33 pm
Morris, I would to but I think given that he’s is on the downside of his peak years, I think we’d be overpaying for him. One of the thing that makes him more expensive than alot of lead off guys is that he literally can play every position but catcher.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:34 pm
Great point Joe Buck, yea the Phillies could go to the bench and bring in the big sluggers like Brett Myers and …
November 4th, 2009 at 11:34 pm
Hey Nick Swisher……You suck!!
Heard that in my section all night on Monday….seemed to worked so I thought I’d try it tonight!
November 4th, 2009 at 11:34 pm

November 4th, 2009 at 11:36 pm
Dont listen to WIP, none of those people have any credibility. They’re just all windbags that mostly care about the NFL.
Figgins will cost mad money, but the top of our order would be the best in baseball if they did sign him. Too expensive probably. There are not a lot of really great 3B who are realistically gettable. They will need to trade their hitting prospects for one I think. Atkins will be released but the Rockies, so if you want him wait until he gets non tendered.
Come on guys! ONE MORE COMEBACK!
November 4th, 2009 at 11:36 pm

November 4th, 2009 at 11:36 pm
But with the strength the Phillies have at the other 7 positions, what Pedro Feliz does at the plate should not matter. He has had a crap night. But the focus should not be on him. It’s time for the Phillies to start hitting.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:38 pm

You can’t hit for Francisco just because then you have either Stairs or Dobbs playing left.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:40 pm
I would love to pick up Garret Atkins, but I feel like we already too many similar players. We need a guy who just gets on base. But there no way to get him or Figgins into the lineup tonight.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:40 pm
oof… nice swing at ball 3, dude…
November 4th, 2009 at 11:40 pm
Sorry, Phillies. A *REAL* team from the AL got into the WS so no repeat for you. You should give back your 2008 rings. Obviously undeserved.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:40 pm

November 4th, 2009 at 11:40 pm

November 4th, 2009 at 11:41 pm
I really can’t stand to see Yankee fans celebrate, it’s making me nauseous.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:41 pm
Tracey, the Phils seem to do better when you cheer for the team, rather than the individual. I appreciate the positivity, but we need to lift up the team, and do so a little more sparingly.

LET’S GO PHILS!
November 4th, 2009 at 11:41 pm
Matsui with a HR, double, single and 6 RBIs in this game. Just unbelievable that the Phils would allow him to have the kind of game he is having against them in this vitally important game tonight. Makes you wonder what kind of advance scouting was done on him. Martinez served him up a meatball for the HR but the guy seems to be hitting everything thrown up there. Wonder if the Phils had any clue as to how to get him out before the series started.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:42 pm
But it does matter man. He has been killing way too many rallies when it matters the most. The guy is no longer a full time everyday player. He can platoon, thats it.

Tracey, don’t wave that towel… throw it in.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:43 pm
Either we get a more consistent bat in the top of the order or get a little more pop in the bottom of the line-up. Were an AL line-up without a DH. That’s how we get exposed when the middle of the line-up goes slumpy. DUMB JIMMY. Lets go vic, your due
November 4th, 2009 at 11:44 pm
Lot of the rumors have Matsui going to the Tigers next year. The Hanshin tigers that is. My second favorite baseball team.

(just trying to recreate the ballpark feel here…)
November 4th, 2009 at 11:47 pm
Now would be a very good time to actually start hitting Marte. @MikeB, Matsui is a tough hitter who just seems to kill people with two strikes. Sometimes you just tip your hat, you know?
November 4th, 2009 at 11:47 pm
Big Utley moment guys….Please Baseball Gods grant us this day. Everyone but the Yankees and their fans want this to go a game seven
November 4th, 2009 at 11:47 pm

November 4th, 2009 at 11:51 pm
What a joke! What a freaking joke. I hate the UMPS!
November 4th, 2009 at 11:51 pm
Looks like the 3rd base umpire wants to be a star tonight.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:51 pm
NO WAY UMP!
November 4th, 2009 at 11:53 pm
Are you kidding me? First pitch to Utley was ball outside. Check pitch track. Joe West is a sh*thead. Second pitch was marginal call, but it may have been inside ball. Joe West is a double sh*thead, b/c he should have fixed his first error by evening the count. And on the strike 3 call check swing – that 3rd base ump is taking marching orders from the network.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:53 pm
Marte got that first pitch called strike which hasn’t been called all night . Ut had to take with that pitch.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:53 pm
Pretty poor call in the World Series Ump!
November 4th, 2009 at 11:53 pm
Um, he looked at a ball DEAD middle of the plate. They wont give him the benefit of the doubt after you look a a meatball that was THE mistake to hit the other way to drive two runs in.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:53 pm
Utley should have swung at the 2nd pitch, but that was a horrible call by the ump at 3rd.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:54 pm
Yeah…that was a bit iffy. But come on. How freaking demoralizing would it be for their heavenly sent closer to blow a four run lead over two innings? or better yet, in one shot?!
I have a really good feeling for some reason. I don’t know why, I’m just…happy. Strange. It’s a sign, I think.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:54 pm
First strike was terrible. Second froze him. Third tied him up, and he looked like he went ever-so-slightly…
How do you guys think I feel? I bet on the Philllies team total to be over 3.5 runs……..
November 4th, 2009 at 11:54 pm
OK, Phillies: I am wearing my 2008 World Champions hoodie. I want to upgrade this to a 2009 World Champions hoodie, but I need your help to make that happen. You’re going to have to win this game. If you do, I promise I will buy lots of world champions stuff. Deal?
November 4th, 2009 at 11:54 pm
I don’t know, that’s a call that goes to the home team more often than not. Looked like he borderline went when he pushed the bat forward. But is it just me, or has Marte gotten a lot of wide strike calls against lefties all series?
November 4th, 2009 at 11:54 pm
Second pitch was a strike not the first though.

November 4th, 2009 at 11:55 pm
As I’ve said before, no matter the outcome tonight, these guys have given us an unbelievable ride this year, heck, we’re watching our team in the WS, two years in a row, and I’m thrilled to be a Phillies fan. I don’t care if the Yanks win, I still wouldn’t want to be one of their fans.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:55 pm
Hughes is up in the 8th.
I would sign DeRosa, hes perfect for this team. Dont bring back Stairs either.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:56 pm
Damnit, looked up from my laptop just in time to see THAT from Mitch and Carter. And then the game highlights. And I’ve no beer left.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:57 pm
Mike he has. Ut did go around though but it was set up by the first call. Yeah, Marte has been getting that all series. Man…
November 4th, 2009 at 11:57 pm

Well Mike D., I realize that Matsui is a good hitter as he hit .274 and had 28 HRs and 90 RBIs during the regular season and no doubt is a good two strike hitter but in some cases it just has been mediocre Philly pitching; poor pitch location that has helped him out, but yes, I would tip my hat to him.

LET’S GO PHILS!! (clap!) LET’S GO PHILS!!
LET’S GO PHILS!! (clap!) LET’S GO PHILS!!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:20 am
YES!!! RAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULLL!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:21 am
Pat – is there a way to block this stuff out next season.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:21 am
The Phillies have them right where they want them.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:21 am
One pitch, his whole career. Unbelievable. Damn you, mom and dad, for not teaching me how to throw a cutter!
Why do I still feel optimistic? I’m stone sober. Weird.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:21 am
LET”S GO BOYS
November 5th, 2009 at 12:22 am
Here’s a statement you don’t here everyday: Scott Eyre is probably my favorite player on the team.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:22 am
idk how everyone was so optimistic. I was freaking scared from the get-go.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:22 am
(argh… they are intercutting so many scenes from previous games, I can’t tell what’s going on!)
November 5th, 2009 at 12:22 am
Let’s go Phillies! Let’s Go Phillies! LET”S GO PHILLIES!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:23 am
Well, it’s time to take my phone off the hook before my a$$hole friend the Yankee fan calls to gloat, he is such a front-runner.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:23 am
OK, now I can say it for real:
YES!!! RAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULLL!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:24 am
They can do this.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:24 am
Ok, that’s a start. Time for Pedro to redeem himself.
Why the hell was Gardner playing so shallow?
November 5th, 2009 at 12:24 am
152 days is so many days away
nice double Rauuul, of course it’s with 2 outs and Feliz up. so umm.
Ibanez had a double off Mo in game 2 too.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:24 am
Wow. Raul, you were fantastic during that at-bat. What a battle. Let’s be a spark, Raul, show some fight, boys, let’s go, F-ING GET THIS!!!!!!!!!! COME ON!!!!!!!!!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:24 am
OK, guys, did you see that? Rivera IS hittable! Take him down, boys!
LET’S GO PHILS!
LET’S GO PHILS!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:25 am
RIVERA can be got to with the bloop hit…notice how shallow the CF sets up
November 5th, 2009 at 12:25 am
Well, if the Phils don’t come back, does Feliz get the Jeltz?
November 5th, 2009 at 12:25 am
Aw crap.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:25 am
well that sucks, 3 outs left.
Francisco (PH for him please), Ruiz, and Rollins.
ah I guess it’d make sense for Jimmy to be the last out because of his predictions
November 5th, 2009 at 12:25 am
HORRENDOUS! Left 5 guys in scoring position
November 5th, 2009 at 12:25 am
Feliz kills another what would have been rally.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:26 am
Wow, Pedro Feliz has totally redefined the term “crapping the bed”
November 5th, 2009 at 12:26 am
Why didnt they pinch hit for Feliz there???
November 5th, 2009 at 12:26 am
I vote no Jeltz award tonight.
Ashburn Award goes to the Phils.
GO PHILS!!!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:26 am
My Facebook status is full of people who are turning off the game and quitting. Cowards.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:26 am
“Guns dont kill rallies, Feliz does.”
November 5th, 2009 at 12:27 am
we HAVE to get a starting pitcher to be our number 2 guy, a closer, and a third basemen.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:27 am
Why does Charlie even let Feliz hit in that spot? Bring Dobbs in to pinch hit – lefty v. righty, and let him play 3rd in the 9th. YOU NEED 4 RUNS, you have Ibanez on base.
There have been just too many stupid decisions by Manuel tonight.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:27 am
Feliz is indeed a rally-killer, but we can win this one without him coming back to bat. This is still within reach! LET’S GO PHILS! LET’S GO PHILS!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:27 am
Yeah Pat, that comment was probably the most classless I’ve seen on here.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:27 am
I have hard time faulting Feliz against this guy.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:29 am
You never want to pinpoint a loss on one player, but Pedro Feliz is putting in a top of the line effort.
Please, for the love of Pete, let somebody bat for Francisco to lead off the inning.
The Phillies need to do the Torre/Girardi move and waste a ton of time in the bottom of the 8th and let Mo’s are tighten up.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:29 am
By the way: I assume everybody saw the photoshop of the Phanatic climbing the Empire State Building like King Kong? LOL!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:29 am
no one to play for feliz if they take him out.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:30 am
Keith E Says:
I vote no Jeltz award tonight.
Ashburn Award goes to the Phils.
GO PHILS!!!
Amen Keith!!!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:30 am
YES!! Well, at least you can’t fault Feliz’s fielding tonight!!!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:30 am
well that’s a web gem by Feliz
can we go back to game 3 right before A-rod hits a homerun please?
November 5th, 2009 at 12:30 am
Feliz!!!
GO PHILS!!!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:30 am
J Reed – if you don’t want to fault Feliz, fine. Fault Manuel on that decision.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:31 am
Feliz sucks but COLE HAMELS ball in hand with a 3 run lead at home in game 3 SUCKS MORE.
GET RID OF COLE HAMELS – he is a pu$$y.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:31 am
@j reed, I see your point. You can’t pinch-hit Dobbs for him, AC, because Dobbs really isn’t much better. Annnnnddd that play that Feliz just made is the other reason.
Okay, now would be a very good time for the bottom of the order to step up. It was the bottom of the order in AZ that got to Mo in Game 7 in 2001. It ain’t over until Big Momma sings.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:31 am
Ashburn to the Phillies!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:31 am
Phanatic as King Kong HERE
November 5th, 2009 at 12:32 am
OK folks, barring a mirAcle, I’m out for the night. Proud of our Phils. Will win it all again next year1
November 5th, 2009 at 12:32 am
LET’S GO PHILS!
LET’S GO PHILS!
LET’S GO PHILS!
LET’S GO PHILS!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:32 am
@Mike….thought it was Harry sings!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:32 am
Feliz is 0-4 with a man on second during each at-bat. So kind of yes, this is his fault.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:33 am
If we’re replacing Feliz next year, it’d better be someone who’s just as good defensively, our pitchers would miss that glove.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:33 am
I agree about not having a jeltz. Feliz would be the jeltz for 152 days lol. That sucks.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:33 am
I like that. Ashburn to the Phillies for NL Champs and for never giving up. But, as a fan, I shan’t give up either. I’d feel just as badly whether or not I saw the final out.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:34 am
How many people really think the Phils are going to look for a new closer in the offseason? Given his contract, I think the Phils are going back to Lidge next season hoping he can bounce back and start at zero – forgetting about this year.
Anybody disagree?
November 5th, 2009 at 12:34 am
HI-I-IGH HOPES!
WE’VE GOT … HI-I-IGH HOPES!
WE’VE GOT… HIGH APPLE PIE IN THE SKY-Y-Y HOPES!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:34 am
AC in NJ
not just tonite-
there were lots of stupid decisions by Charlie thru-out this series
but he did not swing a bat or have 13K’S or come out of the BP & give up runs
November 5th, 2009 at 12:34 am
What would Philthadelphians know about class?
Champagne’s on ice! GO YANKEES!!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:35 am
LET’S. GO. FIGHTINS!!!!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:35 am
You can say what you want about Feliz’s AB they all sucked all post season. I think the issuse is Charlie allowing him to bat 7. Chooch should be the 7 batter period.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:35 am
You gotta believe!
And remember….If you win with the World Champion Philadelphia Phillies you must be willing to lose with them.
Let’s Go Phillies!!!!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:36 am
Nobody get the Jeltz if we lose. What do have to be ashamed of. The Yankees are a great team, they play the game right eventhough nobody cares if they win because of the advantages they ….besides we were one starting pitcher short. We didn’t have the one two punch. Unfortunately Hamels had an off year. Unfortuanately Howard cooled off and that was the difference. Still 3 more outs
November 5th, 2009 at 12:37 am
*!*!*!* LET’S GO PHILS *!*!*!*
*!*!*!* BEAT NEW YORK! *!*!*!*
*!*!*!* LET’S GO PHILS! *!*!*!*
*!*!*!* BEAT NEW YORK! *!*!*!*
November 5th, 2009 at 12:37 am
I think we’ll win it all again next year, if Lee doesn’t show the stress of so many innings this year, and if Hamels comes back with a better work ethic, curveball, and attitude. Okay, big stipulations…but of the latter, I’m sure it will happen. The former, I’m a teacher, not a doctor.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:37 am
“Philadelphia is a Cesspool”
“What would Philthadelphians know about class?”
SPOKEN LIKE A TRUE ‘CHAMPION’ —> talk about class….
November 5th, 2009 at 12:38 am
I have never liked Manuel. I have said the forever. Not pitching Lee in game 4. Not taking Pedro out tonight with General Chicken up. Not putting Chooch in the seventh spot. We counted on a guy who has not pitched the entire season. AMAZING. Trade Hollywood, get rid of Feliz, Lidge, Stairs, Dobbs, Myers. Get a bench for this team. Revamp the bullpen. Get a big closer in here. Next year rotation. Lee, Happ, Drabek, and get two more via free agency. Yankees were supposed to win. They spent 300 million on two pitchers.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:39 am
I think Hamels and Lidge will have great seasons next year.
And we’ll win the World Series 4-2 over the Red Soxs next year. And yes game 6 would be in Philly because the NL will finally win the damn All Star game.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:39 am
LET’S GO PHILS!
EAT NEW YORK!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:41 am
Let’s go Phillies we can do this…
November 5th, 2009 at 12:41 am
Nice move by Jimmy to give the ball to a fan. Not so with Melky
November 5th, 2009 at 12:42 am
Ok, time to make history.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:42 am
THIS ONE’S FOR HARRY!
MAKE HARRY PROUD!
LET’S GO PHILS!!!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:42 am
Granted whynow – it is primarily on the players. But Charlie has been outmanaged by Girardi, which isn’t cool b/c Girardi just isn’t as good a manager.
Oh well, I’ll try to enjoy the last 3 minutes of the Phils world champion reign, with my hand on the remote to flick it off two seconds before the final out so I don’t have to watch the NY F*cks celebrating.
Unfortunately for me, I work in Manhattan and have to go into the office tomorrow and hear it from the frontrunners. I plan on working from one of our NJ satellite offices on Friday so I don’t have to be anywhere near that parade.
AND IT WON’T BE AS GOOD A PARADE AS LAST YEAR’S!!
I just hope both the Phils and Yanks get back to this point next year, cause winning another WS without beating these F*cks would still feel somewhat less to me.
Everyone have a great winter. Spring Training is only ??? days away?
November 5th, 2009 at 12:43 am
Can catch a break LETS GO CHOOCH
November 5th, 2009 at 12:44 am
oh 152 days away until we face those pesky Nationals.
Cliff Lee vs. idk
November 5th, 2009 at 12:45 am
It’s not over yet…
LET’S GO PHILLIES!!
LET’S GO PHILLIES!!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:46 am
well Ruiz doesn’t want this to end.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:46 am
CHOOOOCH!!!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:46 am
wasn’t Victorino the last out in ‘07 too?
November 5th, 2009 at 12:47 am
couldnt have picked a better guy for a last out
November 5th, 2009 at 12:47 am
ac in nj
you’re 100% RIGHT
take care everyone
have a great off season!!
GO BIRDS!!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:47 am
I’ve gotta go, can’t watch the celebration.
LOVE MY PHILLIES FOREVER!!!!!!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:48 am
AC – Come on…what can Charlie do if he has no viable 2 starter…Giradi was aggressive in alot ways that Manuel wasn’t but he has a bullpen that was a Mash Unit with the best closer in the game. If Hamels hadn’t an off year we would have had this. Just bad timing against a very good team.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:49 am
Hee hee. Keep fouling them off, Shane!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:50 am
that’s “Giradi didn’t have a Mash Unit for a a bull pen.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:50 am
good AB shane
November 5th, 2009 at 12:51 am
THANK YOU PHILS FOR A GREAT YEAR!!!!!
GO PHILS!!!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:51 am
(SIGH!) Ah well.
May I suggest Mayor Nutter for the Jeltz, for announcing this morning that he wasn’t going to pay for a parade?
November 5th, 2009 at 12:52 am
Love to see the shit talkers wait until it’s niiiiice and safe to open their mouths. Way to have confidence in your team, ladies.
Great season.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:53 am
sigh

November 5th, 2009 at 12:55 am
Great season Phils. Get em next year. I love you all, Phils. No homo.
Can we do an off-season meet-up? Tracey, I’d love to meet super-fan. And j reed the scientologist…and all you folks. This is the first year I’ve followed PhilliesNation and it was a lot of fun. So thanks for that.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:56 am
Although the NYC ticker-tape parade will celebrate the Yankees World Series championship, I will still be happy to have seen the Phillies lose! Jimmy Rollins is no longer Nostradamus, and Cole Hamels will leave this series and this season worn and dejected, and the Shane Victorino made the last out of the World Series. Oh, how their banter seems laughable now!
It will be a somber day in Philadelphia tomorrow, and I will take great pleasure in reminding myself of that fact.
Until next year, Phillies fans!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:57 am
Hey Yankees. You can take your apology and your trophy and shove it straight up your ass.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:57 am
OK, so rather than celebrate you’d rather be reading and posting on our blog. Damn you dickheads need to get a life. And wait to next spring, when Arod gets a 95 mile an hour fastball on his skull.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:58 am
At least the Yankees are a group of hard working, respectable, home grown, dedicated, players that always play the right way, never take any shortcuts and have a a good fan base that sticks by them not matter what, and remains classy
November 5th, 2009 at 12:59 am
Congratulations to the Yankees on a series well played.
To all my new friends on the nation….thanks for a great season! I came across this site late in the season and I love it! You made it so great to watch the games! And so much information was shared and learned! See ya next season!
Here’s to next year! Go Phils! No reason to hang your heads. You played an excellent series! You played an excellent season! Rest up because we will expect a lot from you again next year! Go Phils!
THANKS FOR A GREAT YEAR PHILLIES!!!!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:59 am
Well, now we’ve got the off-season to work on our pitching woes.
Sometimes great teams have to go through some adversity.. maybe this loss will just make them even more hungry for another championship.
Thanks for the season, Phils. Can’t wait until next year.
November 5th, 2009 at 1:00 am
Yeah we just couldn’t bankroll a viable second starter. Yankee sucks their own balls. You know to see a yankee troll come here this quick after winning a WS means one thing. they are not a real New Yorker just a bandwagon fan, probably a trust fund baby who grew up in Bethsda
November 5th, 2009 at 1:00 am
David, speaking for all Phillies fans, I think that I can say while that Jimmy Rollins may no longer Nostradamus, he can predict with 100% certainty (as can we all) that the Mutts will suck in 2010 and finish well below the Phils in the division. Mutts will not even sniff playoffs for years to come.
November 5th, 2009 at 1:01 am
@Mike D: Yeah, PN should have a season post-mortem party where all us loyal fans can meet. What do you think, PN?
November 5th, 2009 at 1:01 am
Mike D., same here! First season I happened upon Phillies Nation, and I’ve gotta say it was awesome.
Through all the moaning and groaning to all the celebration. From people getting tired of us whiners at the end of the season (we’ll NEVER make it to the postseason playing like THIS) to right now, bonding as a family (too schmaltzy?) even though our team met its world champion end just 5 minutes prior.
I’m not upset. I think I have you guys to thank for that. Especially tracey, the ultimate fan, who without I would be a sobbing quivering wreck right now (and I don’t think I’m exaggerating too much there…). And not only her, all you guys.
Thank you! Thanks for a great season!
I love the Phils. We will be back. Until next year,
Go Fightins.
November 5th, 2009 at 1:03 am
Bud Selig is still an ass.
November 5th, 2009 at 1:04 am
Tracey, and everyone else: Will do! We would certainly love to meet everyone who follows this site day in and day out.
We thank you all for hanging with us all season, through the ups and downs, and through this exceptional postseason. You guys have been outstanding.
Thanks again, your making this site the best there is.
November 5th, 2009 at 1:07 am
Thanks Amanda and Pat
GO PHILS!!!
November 5th, 2009 at 1:08 am
Well, tomorrow morning, I have to go out and by my mother one of those “Back to Back NL Champions” t-shirts they had at Modells. Hope they still have those; they were really nice. I promised her last night that if the Phils won, I would buy her a 2009 World Champs shirt, and if they didn’t I would buy her one of those Back-to-Back shirts. She lives in South Carolina, so not easy to find in stores near her!
November 5th, 2009 at 1:08 am
sad
November 5th, 2009 at 1:13 am
Thanks for putting up with us, Pat!
I confess, the despair mongers here had me a bit put off at times, but I realized while going to the post-season games (I was at two of the losing games at home) that you just need to ignore all that and keep on cheering! Much more fun that way! Who cares if you’re wrong in the end?
But really: Nutter for the Jeltz.
November 5th, 2009 at 1:13 am
Thanks for a great season! can’t wait to see the 2010 phillies and see Cliff Lee for a full season!
November 5th, 2009 at 1:15 am
No one can stand me so I have to sit on a phillies blog and celebrate a championship because I’m a front runner with no life yes I’m pathetic.
November 5th, 2009 at 1:15 am
David, the Mets Fans. Obviously you have never been to Philly. A sports team losing a big game does not cause a somber day. We are Philadelphia fans. We are more than used to it.
It’s the long periods of sadness that allow us to get through the brief moments of joy.
November 5th, 2009 at 1:15 am
Oh yes: And I also have to go to the store tomorrow morning and buy some of the Turkey Hill Yankees flavor for my Yankees fan co-workers. If the Phils won, they would have bought me some Graham Slam.
November 5th, 2009 at 1:16 am
Tracey, that’s what I started thinking. Perversely, the Phillies do BETTER when I think negatively. But, I realize, this Phillies team won’t be the last good Phillies team. And when you’re pessimistic and wrong, you feel relieved but mostly stupid. You feel just as poorly if you’re right.
Go Phils. That said, I dread seeing Yankees fans tomorrow. That’s why I miss private school uniforms.
November 5th, 2009 at 1:16 am
So the Yankees buy another winning season and this time a WS. Not sure if it’s just me, but they sure don’t look too excited about the WS win. Almost like they know they stacked their team and were supposed to win.
I think it robs their players of the sense of accomplishment that comes from an earned championship through teamwork and dedication. Not just putting together an allstar team and expected to win.
November 5th, 2009 at 1:18 am
How about SEPTA for the Jeltz? I knew it was bad karma that they threatened to strike. The day after they go through with it, the Phillies lose.
November 5th, 2009 at 1:20 am
@Mike: Yeah, the SEPTA union deserves a lifetime achievement Jeltz for that BS. Their president is a megalomaniac who needs to adjust his meds. I’m convinced he’s striking because the power has gone to his head. They weren’t even talking about this pension stuff last week, and now that’s the supposed reason for the strike.
November 5th, 2009 at 1:21 am
Oregon111 you really are an idiot.
November 5th, 2009 at 1:22 am
A few thoughts. It’s a shame we lost today. I really wanted us to beat the Yankees. To make it seem like the season was a total loss though is absurd. The Phillies are going to be good for many years to come and while they didn’t win it all this year, we have plenty of good baseball to watch.
Also, what’s with everyone getting so down on Feliz? I think you’re attacking the wrong Pedro. While what Martinez did for us this year was admirable, at the end of the day he just let up too many base runners and RBIs. No offense to him, but don’t get so mad at Feliz.
Also, I totally agree with the Ashburn award going to the Phillies. Thanks for the great season! I can’t wait for next year!
November 5th, 2009 at 1:24 am
Charlie is a class act with his comments!!!! Not a mention of how good a competitor the Phillies were by any of the Yankee organization or players. Why am i even surprised?
November 5th, 2009 at 1:26 am
Good news. We just got done paying myers, jenkins and eaton. Proud of our Phillies.
November 5th, 2009 at 1:27 am
I live in Arizona right know and you would not believe how many damn Yankees fans there are, ironically none have ever been to New York. They can’t even name the 5 bouroghs. Bandwagon fans are so fake! i bet Oregon111 was a Red Sox fan when they were beating the Yankmes.
November 5th, 2009 at 1:28 am
Hey Nice Try. You are a loser.
November 5th, 2009 at 1:29 am
I totally agree with the Ashburn award going to the Phillies. Thanks for the great season! I can’t wait for next year!
meeeee toooooooooo
November 5th, 2009 at 1:29 am
it’s ok guys, the Phillies went a lot farther than we though they would. They lost Myers as a starter, struggling Hamels and Lidge, Utley coming from hip surgery, a lot of BP guys injured (Romero suspension included), and the fact that they had never played that deep last october, and they STILL got within 2 wins of a repeat. This is a great team the Phillies have. They can go back to the WS and beat the Yankees or anyone, as long as:
1. they add a starter. Pedro had a decent season (2nite excluded), but a starter who can’t be expected to go more than 90 pitches isn’t good. Plus, anyone think he can last the entire season?
2. upgrade at 3B. Does anyone really think Pedro Feliz can still bring it for a while? That’s 2 straight postseasons hes struggled, not to mention his Defense is slipping.
3. put Lidge on a short leash. If he sucks again, find a new closer.
4. Add at least LH one good bench hitter. Francisco is OK as a rightly, stairs is barely tolerable as a lefty.
November 5th, 2009 at 1:30 am
@ Mike D:
At least you weren’t riding the R5 BBQ Express this morning. Nothing like riding a trashy, old-equipment train that becomes a burny, old-equipment train.
November 5th, 2009 at 1:30 am
Just remember that ant!
November 5th, 2009 at 1:30 am
For all those getting on Charlie all season long – all you have to do is just watch that post-game interview to see how much love he has for his guys. This team fights hard for him day-in, day-out, and that’s something really special. My heart ached while I heard him speak. And yet, he was respectful and gracious – the perfect reflection on our great organization.
We’ll be back next year. See you at the games!
November 5th, 2009 at 1:32 am
I’m a loser. I like to pretend I am smart. I also like to pretend I have friends. But I am stupid and have no friends. Later tonight I will post under a different name and try to make friends. It won’t work.
November 5th, 2009 at 1:33 am
Still waiting to hear just one of the Yankees say something about the Phillies……………
November 5th, 2009 at 1:36 am
This is why I never listen to postgames by opposing teams. Why do it and put yourself through it, HotDogs? The Yankees are smug.
November 5th, 2009 at 1:39 am
Don’t even acknowledge the garbage responses. These are not real fans – if they really loved the Yankees, they would be celebrating their win, not coming on in here to talk trash. Totally pointless. And classless.
November 5th, 2009 at 1:40 am
Well I’m sure that stung RAJ a little for not getting a middle reliever or two and a not addressing the bench issue.

They didn’t look too excited about I noticerd that myself I guess that’s because half the guys there don’t really wanna be there and are only there because of contracts they give out to em.

As Bring it On once taught us,
“Second place? Hell yea!”
Nothing to be ashamed of. People who don’t understand sportmanship will not understand that. But it was a great year. They only needed to win two more games. And it proves that last year was not a fluke. This team really is something special.

@Mike D…….you are right. Just used to Charlie and his classy remarks. Guess I am spoiled.
Regarding the trolls….idea for next year IGNORE! Nothing gets at those seeking attention more than not recieving that attention. Just an idea.

FillyP – They aren’t even real New Yorkers…trust fund babies from any rich suburb in the the US..only way they could afford Manhatten
November 5th, 2009 at 1:47 am
well, maybe if philly was as big a city as NY, then our teams could afford bigger salaries.
Wait til the NFL loses its salary cap (if it happens)…the NFC and AFC east teams (-buffalo) will basically own half the good players…

HotDogs- no we take turns monitoring them and find a way to block them . The Good Phight on SB Nation does it. If an opposing fan wants to be civil and talk baseball fine.
November 5th, 2009 at 2:10 am
The one thing I do no understand is people saying the Phillies are a fluke. In three years, they have 3 division titles, 2 pennants, and 1 World Series. They are going to be good for years to come and I can’t wait to watch more great Phillies baseball.

Bronx123 – You were probably born and raised anywhere but New York….You win a WS and your on the the blog of your opponent to talk trash. Why aren’t you celebrating with friends, family and fellow fans? You live in the city that doesn’t sleep after winning the WS and your on a blog. Sorry but your not a real New Yorker unless your 12 years old and are stuck at home.

Guys, I’d like to congratulate you on a good series, both teams fought hard and Cliff Lee is a tank by the way. Of course im thrilled the Yanks won (i was at the game) but i do truthfully respect the Phillies, you are not a fluke.
Sincerely a New York Teen who has to go to school tomorrow

i am a longtime suffering cleveland indians fan – so i suffered longer and harder than all you philly fans put together! (grew up there)
more on games… philly outfielders should have made a lot of catches on catchable balls today – you keep running until the ball hits the ground, you dont give up – that is how you give up runs
more on fans… i hate every yankee fan that is not from new york and i still hate the rest based on principal
biggest bandwagon fans: yankees, cowboys, steelers, lakers
dumbest fans: raider fans
drunkest fans: cowboy fans
biggest gansta wannabes: laker fans
more on howard: just because a guy hits a lot of homers per season doesnt mean he can hit in the clutch to drive baserunners home
more on rollins: just because a guy is really good baserunner is not a good enough reason to be a leadoff hitter
more on yankees: they add sabathia, texera, and that other pitcher,
they bought a-rod and swisher,
jeter is their only legit player
any team with a money tree could have bought those guys and won a WS
they buy giambi and when he doesnt work out, they kick him to the curb and buy texirea
more on game: after last pitch, the yankee players did not seem to have real joy, just glad they didn’t mess up
fact: MLB was better in the 1970s
teams like cinci, oakland, kansas city, pittsburg could keep teams together and play kick ass baseball
free agency has ruined the game
November 5th, 2009 at 5:10 am
i play in a over 35 league and i can hit better than the phillies
it hurts me to watch on my new hi-def tv – all those strikes right down the middle that the philly hitters just stare at
then with 2 strikes, they have to swing at moving fastballs an inch off the corner
im glad its over – hurts to much to watch weak baseball
i want to see agressive hitting, fielding and baserunning – but that all stopped after the 70s – now its all about playing pussie baseball:
try to get a walk, dont steal if it shows somebody up, dont risk looking bad by trying to catch a fly ball at the fence, dont take an extra base – just wait for home run
what they do now, you may as well just call it softball
blogger poll: does anyone else think mccarver sucks as an announcer?
another problem with MLB: why do they play so ssssllllllllooooowwwww?
college world series is better to watch than these MLB marathons
one improvement over last time yankees in WS:
they dont let that ronin tiron: irish tenor guy sing anymore
i hate him too – he tries to stay on tv as long as he can and delay the game
note to papplalbon: rivera is still better than you

oregon111:
PING! You actually like that? College baseball and PING!!!!!
November 5th, 2009 at 6:38 am
Come down to Philly and talk like that, bronx123, Mr. Internet Tough guy. I’ll send you crying home to your mommy.
The Yankees buy championships, and A-Rod and Pettite are known steroid cheats.
But anything it takes to win in the Big Apple, right? Just like the Wall Street greasebags who took the entire country for a ride, Steinbrenners spending ways are ruining baseball. There’s a reason football is the dominant American sport, and that’s parity.
But let’s not talk about football, right? Because your Giants just got their asses handed to them by Philly, and they can’t go out and buy Tom Brady, Reggie Wayne, and all the best players because of the salary cap.
What’s really sad is that you overspend by a HUGE margin every single year, and it took you 10 to win another WS. Dumb guido prick.

Dave S,
no, i dont like the way that sounds at all –
‘crack’ is much better than ‘ping’
and i know the pros are much better players, but the pace of MLB just kills me
sometimes when it gets sooo sloooow, it hurts almost as much as watching soccer
like in late innings when they only let pitchers pitch to 1 freakin batter
November 5th, 2009 at 6:49 am
Thank God for the Yankees. These Phillies and their fans needed to be knocked down a peg. The Yankees handled them with an ease that would make any ego shrink a bit and for that I am grateful.
November 5th, 2009 at 6:56 am
one more word on ‘pace’:
just wait until they start reviewing every play with instant replay like they do in football…
get ready for 9 hour games!
November 5th, 2009 at 10:57 am
thanks for a wonderful season. it was a wonderful ride, better luck next year.win or lose we love you anyway.

Phillies fans, just wanted to say you guys have a great team. Rollins, Victorino, Utley, Howard and Werth gave me ulcers all 6 games. It would not been as competitive or as much fun against an opponent other than you. I don’t think the Dodgers or Rockies could have made the series as close as it was. Feliz is sick with the glove. That one haned catch last night!??! WOW!!!
And holy shit!!! Cliff Lee is the man. A little cocky with the yawning popup catch in Game one, but man can he pitch.
Hope to see you guys again in the 2010 World Series!! Good game!!
Sincerely,
Hoyl GhostClaw
Yanks Fan Since 1986
PS – Crush the Mets again next year.
