   What a trade. I heard it was more of the owners involved. We get Roy for six million a year. They are giving us 11 million. he is owed 23 million in two years. for what happ and prospects. amazing deal for us. With brown up and this rotation. we will speed pass the braves. all the way baby.

   While this does work out to a very good deal for the Phillies, it feels like a bit of a hollow victory. We shouldn’t have needed to acquire a top-of-the-line starter halfway through the season, but of course that has been beaten to death. Still, all I know about Oswalt from what I’ve seen and read in the coverage of this deal is that he’s a bitch with a bad attitude and pitching talent that is decent but not mind-blowing. It’s an improvement, but I can’t really get all that excited about it. I’d say it’s up to him to prove to the Phillies faithful that he can bring a better attitude and be a part of this team.

   Moyer seems to be out for the season, but not getting surgery partly because he plans on pitching next season. Work out a cheap contract and give ourselves Roy, Cole, Roy, Joe, Jamie? I’d prefer that to keeping Kendrick around, even if it’s a bit of a long shot. We’ll see. Focus on this year for now.

   Oswalt is more than decent. Look at his career stats. He’s more than Cole Hamels, has had and will continue to have a better career than J.A. Happ most likely will, and seems to want to come to Philadelphia, claiming he really wants to start tomorrow. He hasn’t even met the team yet and he wants to take the ball. That type of devotion to doing a job is pretty damn rare in many players not named Roy.

   Just think,,,,,,,we have won 8 straight with our ss. and 2nd basemen out of the lineup for extended periods. The season is now going to be fun with the thought of J-Roll back in a few days and Utley back in about 3-4 weeks. With our 3 top of the rotation guys leading the way, i think that will really help our 4 and 5 guys games.

   Moyer would be a risk to give a contract to to pitch again for the Phils next year considering his age and coming off of that elbow injury. Would like to see him signed as a coach but not for pitching. I want to see how Kendrick does the remainder of the season before I set my thinking about him in stone. The guy has pitched 2 good games in a row but has faced a team with top players out hurt and a last place team from the West Division.

    I like the trade…I really liked happ,but oswalt is much better I mean oswalt has won 20 games in his career twice and has a career era in the low 3’s and on top of that has shown he can pitch in the playoffs winning the nlcs mvp in 05 and you look at his numbers this year except wins and losses,he’s not having a bad year hour just doesn’t get run support…now I’d like to see them get another arm in the pen…

    I wonder how Cantu of Florida felt after he played for the Marlins in San Francisco today, had a couple of hits in their victory and then found out a short time later that he was traded to Texas. The Phillies are probably happy to hear about the trade as they will be playing in Florida next week. A tough hitter now out of that Florida lineup.

Free to log on, they dont get paid, they get some decent access to stuff for not being professionals affiliated with other “professional” sites like ESPN. Come on, these guys do a great job.     Bob I totally agree. We Were at exactly 100 games into the season before this game, with 62 more to go. If we win atleast 40 of them games we are pretty much guarenteed into the playoffs. Add 1 win to that total for tonights game.

    We couldn’t have picked a better week to start winning. I think if we fell back out of the standings any further, Oswalt wouldn’t have agreed to the deal. Anyways, were on fire. Oswalt and Brown will ignite this fuse again, and its just going to keep getting better down the stretch….Jimmy back, Chase back, better bench (Brown, Gload, and Schneider) Thats solid. Maybe add another bench player for security, and another back end reliever and we got ourselves another World Series Ring

    I don’t think he meant it like that. I understand where hes coming from because I just stumbled upon this site last week, and really started enjoying it a lot. I got addicted to it for a minute, than when all these rumors started emerging I tried every few hours to log in and couldn’t. He was just a really frustrated fan of the site (If that makes sense lol). These guys are doing a great job with this site. Keep this shit going

    Jamie Moyer? If the phils had kept lee. Fans would go crazy this off~season when lee walked and an oswalt~like was already gone. They cant win. The lee trade was dumb. But its over now. And if oswalt does expected this trade is highway robbery by the phils.

    By the way..I think having Oswalt on the team will put the spring back in Lidge’s step. Lidge looked amped after the game during the interview he gave on CSN. He looked sharp in the 10th inning. Charlie should of went to Lidge in the 9th. He makes some really stupid decisions sometimes

    I’m not saying that this is a bad deal or that I’m not looking forward to having Oswalt here. I just don’t like his attitude – the way he dragged his heels through the whole negotiation process, bitching about not wanting to go to a big market team… I want what the commentators call a “gamer” – someone who really wants to go out there and win for the Phillies. Oswalt has plenty of time to win me over and I won’t be surprised if he does, but right now I just see someone grumbling his way into town and I don’t like that.

    I’d be pumped to see Moyer as a coach. More pumped to see him keep pitching, but it’s true that no one is going to want to give a 47 year old – who might not be able to pitch next year depending on how his recovery goes – any kind of contract. He was having a good year, and it’s a shame to see it come to an end. Still, he doesn’t think he’s finished, and he’s proved others who thought he was finished wrong for years (decades, even), so we’ll see. For now I’m focused on the Phillies’ present successes.

    I just want to express some enthusiasm for this amazing pitcher to join the Phillies staff. Awesome! come on, when did Phils phans turn into the bitchy hot girl at the prom? This team just got way better. Sick. Lets do this.

    the question is how good are the prospects the phils gave up? does anyone know how drabek, talyor, carrasco, marson, etc are doing in other organizations? might be a good way to figure out if the trades have been good.

    Not so sure to go straight straight to Lidge in the 9th, HOWEVER, Madson in the 9th just plain SUCKS. I dont get how he can be lights out as a set up man, but give him the ball in the 9th, and WATCH OUT. Its one inning. It seems purely mental. Back to Lidge though, he looked flat out nasty tonight, so maybe Cholly should have gone straight to him. Hindsight is 20/20.

    I’ve seen gose, electric. he will be a game changer and I think the Stros already shipped him off. Bad move, but we made out like bandits

    Everyone should get off Amaro about Lee too, it’s a distant memory. He’s my favorite pitcher but I believe Halladay and Oswalt are more talented. Lee paints the corners and I swear he has a shield protecting him at times.

    Oswalt is a STRIKEOUT pitcher, perfect for our ballpark. He will love this crowd. Welcome home Roy, I will call you Roy Dos.

    @ QU Sam, the only one I have seen so far is Marson. In 141 at bats he has a whopping .191 average. I dont think Drabek or Taylor have seen the Majors yet, and I am not sure about Carrasco.

    that’s what i’ve been thinking too, Brian of CO. On the one hand, no fan should want to see the farm system get pillaged for very short term goals, since the same people who scream about RAJ not ‘winning now’ will yell in 5 years when the studs retire and the prospects aren’t so good. On the other hand, after all the whining people had about ‘pillaging’ the farm system, it occured to me that none of the traded prospects were particularly good (cleveland of all teams got rid of the phils prospects, and drabek is either a #1 or #3 pitcher, depending on who you ask), and the phillies did keep brown, who is the best of all of them. It seems like RAJ, other than the botched Lee trade (if he was going to trade him he should have shopped him around- it was in ESPN article recently about this), he hasn’t given up any great prospects, and he’s acquired 3 ace pitchers in that span.

    I agree with pheeling it, except for the nickname. I am leaning toward Roy Story 2. LOL. Can we please PLEASE PLEASE get off the Lee train. Enough is enough people. It was a mistake, but it is DONE AND OVER WITH! Lets see if “Roy Story 2″ works out. If “Roy Story 2″ is anywhere close to “Roy Story 1″, WATCH OUT! Either way, Halladay, Oswalt, Hamels has the makings to be flat out NASTY. Hamels appears to have found himself again, and if Blanton can continue with his last outing, and get passed his horrible 1st half of the season, and become Big Joe the innings eater we all knew and loved last season. And know Kendrick. Well he is inconsistant, but he is supposed to be the #5 starter, I dont know about you, but I expect the #5 to have a mid 5 ERA. This can get rather fun to watch if the Offense can keep this going. Look like Werth has finally turned it on, except for tonight, but its only 1 night. Howard has had a very good season, and up to last night and tonight has had a GREAT 2nd half. Again, I hope the last 2 games were just off nights. They are looking good now!

    @QU Sam, I would NOT want to be RAJ. The same people who are screaming about “I want to win NOW” are the same people screaming about the farm system. Same people calling him “Ruin Tomorrow Jr”. Has he made mistakes. Well sure, last time I checked, he is human. The problem is, some people forget that the Phillie do not have the checkbook that the Yankmees do. They cant go out and offer 15Mill a year to 5 players every season. Some fans like to point out that the Phillies have around the 3rd highest payroll in the Majors I think (I forget how high), but “forget” to mention that the Phillies payroll is still about 40-45% LESS (almost HALF) of the Yankmees payroll, and with the Red Sox on their spending spree, they are now significantly higher than the Phils. They see the other teams spending BUTT LOADS of money, and want the Phillies to as well. The last few years the Phillies have been on a spending spree compared to what they were like through the mid 80’s to mid 00’s.

    Does anyone know if the Phillies have the option of picking up Oswalt’s contract in 2012? I keep reading conflicting information. Some say we can, some say we will buy him out for the 2 million.

    Well, let me re-phrase…I know we didn’t pick up the option. I guess my question is, will Roy Oswalt be under contract for the Phillies in 2012? Do we have him for 1 year and 2 months or 2 years and 2 months?

    No he’s just under contract through 2011. Its in his contract that if he chooses to resign with another team, or if the Phillies trade him, the Phillies would have to pay 2 Million towards his buyout.

    Just looking at his stats,he had a pretty successful run for quite a few years.But I hope playing with the Phils will improve on his last 2 years.
    I’m pretty psyched over getting more good pitching.
    But I still think we should have gone after a proven reliever.Lidge doesnt seem too reliable anymore,and thats putting it mildly.

    I love PhilliesNation… it’s my go to site. Naturally when huge news happens the only place I want to come to IS PhilliesNation and the only people I want to discuss these things with are the people who frequent this site, not the myriad people on Facebook who have no unique introspection. I hope the bogged down network has been fixed and I’m excited for the new server. Sorry, it’s just my only constructive criticism I’ve ever given this site. If you don’t like it, sorry.
