ESPN has rolled out its new fantasy baseball campaign. Last year, as you remember, John Kruk played an ’80s metal God who “just drafted Carlos Lee.” This year, Chase Utley is part of the action.
The campaign is “Endless Drama,” a faux soap opera filled with deceit and passion. Here is the Web site for “Endless Drama,” which features a ridiculous cast of characters — soap opera actors and actresses, ESPN personalities and baseball players (Utley, Hanley Ramirez, Torii Hunter, Jorge Posada).
Utley plays “Le Garcon Chase.” Here is his bio:
“Second to none at second base, special guest star Chase Utley joins the cast as the waiter on the season opener, “Caught Cheatin’.” In this episode, Grant disguises himself as Chase so he can catch his wife and best friend Lance canoodling in a Mock Draft Lobby. Look for Grant’s alter ego, Chase, to appear in upcoming episodes.”

I have to say, it’s hilarious. They pinned all the great soap opera cliches down (using a real soap director), including the quick cutaway, the “tell, don’t show” style (Chase’s nametag) and the ridiculous guy in the back watching the action (Olney cameo).
