Gamenight: Phillies (12-11) At Pirates (9-13)

The Phillies received great relief pitching and timely hitting in a 3-1 win over the Brewers yesterday. pat Burrell continued his mammoth, machine-sized tear, while Tom Gordon defused a Brewers rally in the seventh.

Tonight the team meets Pittsburgh for a three-game set with the Pirates. The offense faces lefty Zach Duke. The Pirates will face Adam Eaton. Ryan Howard is not starting again, per manager’s orders. Instead, we have a crazy lineup: Brad Harman gets his first start, Chase Utley is at first base and Chris Coste is hitting fifth.

Phillies: Adam Eaton (0-0), 4.74 ERA
Pirates: Zach Duke (0-1), 4.37 ERA

Gametime: 7:05 p.m.
Weather:

75 degrees, stormy
Lineup: Taguchi/Werth/Utley/Burrell/Coste/Feliz/Bruntlett/Harman/Eaton

Your gameday beer: With Howard out of the lineup, we need a hammer. Grab a Long Hammer IPA from Redhook Brewery. Not great, but certainly not terrible, it contains some citrus flavor and a light, almost minty kind of taste. Eat a chili dog with it — beef up, the Phils may need you to hit cleanup.

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
