Utley’s 2 Homers Lead Phils Past Reds

The offense backed up Kyle Kendrick in his first start of 2008, with Chase Utley — call it Chase-innati —  hitting two home runs en route to a 8-4 win Friday night.

Kendrick scattered four runs and eight hits over his five innings of work — not great, but a yeoman’s effort, as his offense answered the clarion call. Pat Burrell knocked his first homer of the season in the first inning, before Utley hit his two — one in the third and one in the fifth. It was over after that, as Ryan Madson, Rudy Seanez and JC Romero combined for a one hitter in the final four frames.

Basically, a real solid win for the Phils. Starting pitching was shaky, but the offense was on fire and the bullpen did their job in spades. It’s just the right kind of win for a team coming off such a topsy turby first victory of the season.
