Gamenight: Giants (13-16) At Phillies (16-13)

Look at the National League Eastern Division standings: Yes, Virginia, the Phillies are in first place. Don’t get too happy – it’s only a 0.5-game lead and it’s May 2, but it’s very, very nice to see the Phils started strong enough to reach this position sooner than September 28.

Tonight the Giants come into town, and usually at this time of the year, we’re talking about Barry Bonds. Not no mo’. Now it’s Aaron Rowand. The former center fielder comes back to face the Phils – he’s hitting .324 with two homers and 14 ribbies. A solid year so far, but nothing to pay exuberant amounts of money for.

Phillies: Kyle Kendrick (2-2), 5.13 ERA
Giants: Pat Misch (0-0), 3.00 ERA

Gametime: 7:05 p.m.
Weather: 67 degrees, possible thunderstorm

Lineup: Victorino/Werth/Utley/Howard/Burrell/Feliz/Bruntlett/Ruiz/Kendrick

Your gamenight beer: As San Francisco carries a large Asian population, and as Kendrick is Mr. Almost Japan, let’s go with the regular Japanese treat: Tsingtao. It’s the big boy over there in Japan, and it’s actually a nice beer with no drawbacks. Eat some lo mein with it and party the freakin’ night away.

Go Phillies!

Tim Malcolm

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
