Gameday: Marlins (31-23) At Phillies (32-25)

It’s a huge day for the Phillies, as they’ll try to take two of three from the first-place Marlins. If they win, they capture first again; if not, it’s 1.5 games back and more work to be done.

Cole Hamels had the opportunity to give the Phils a cushion last night, but pitched very poorly en route to a 7-3 loss. Now it’s up to Jamie Moyer to beat the Fish. He has a 3.05 ERA against the Marlins.

The Marlins counter with phenom Andrew Miller, acquired in the Miguel Cabrera/Dontrelle Willis trade from Detroit. Miller has struggled this season, bu has been effective in three of his last five starts. He’s the kind of young lefty against whom the Phils can sometimes wheeze. The alternate unis will be on display today.

Phillies: Jamie Moyer (5-3) 4.45 ERA
Marlins: Andrew Miller (4-4) 5.53 ERA

Gametime: 1:35 p.m. EST
Weather: 80 degrees, partly cloudy
Television: TBS
Lineup: Rollins, Victorino, Utley, Howard, Burrell, Feliz, Coste, Taguchi, Moyer

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
