Odds And Ends: Draft Roundup, Rosario, Werth

  • Day 2 of the First-Year Player Draft for the Phillies revealed very little, but the Phils picked the maximum amount of players and took a nice variety of high schoolers, college players, pitchers and hitters.

Among the selections are Missouri 3B Johnny Coy, Puerto Rican RHP Julio Rodriguez and Louisville RHP Brian Rosenberg. For these picks I relied on Phuture Phillies for everything, and they love the picks, so it looked like a good day.

  • Pitcher Francisco Rosario, who looked like a bonafide Opening Day reliever before right shoulder inflammation put him on the DL, pitched one inning in rehab for Clearwater Friday.
  • Meanwhile, Jayson Werth could possibly return to the Phillies tonight in Atlanta.

Outfielder Chris Snelling would likely be sent down to AAA Lehigh Valley.

Tim Malcolm

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
