Myers Plays Underdog Role Perfectly

Brett Myers didn’t have his best stuff last night against the Brewers. He wasn’t striking out hitters like Cole Hamels. But he was very strong once he settled in, and had his way against an inexperienced Brewers lineup.

All this while having to hear all week about the dominance of CC Sabathia. Myers:

“I like being the underdog. I’ve always liked it being that way. People will always put you down and say what they want to say about you. But I always liked trying to fight my way back. That’s kind of how I felt.”

Myers relishes this stuff. He loves being doubted, or being altogether forgotten. This game was set up to be a big win for Myers. Luckily, the inexperienced (and downright overrated right now) Corey Hart weakly grounded a double play out to Myers to save his start from blowing up. Once he cleared that hurdle, he was gravy, and he completely convinced everyone of his pitching ability.
