More Holliday Rumors

Most recent rumors concerning the Phillies and Matt Holliday have the Phillies talking about adding Jayson Werth in a deal for the Colorado slugger.

So that makes Werth, Shane Victorino, Carlos Carrasco, Lou Marson and JA Happ all a part of the train of players lined up in possible deals for Holliday.

*** First off, no way I’d give up Werth or Victorino. You’re basically going back to square one if you’re making that deal, since you still have to potentially add an outfielder. Plus, Vic and Werth give the team assets you’re not getting from most outfielders.

Of the prospects, I’d probably rather part with Happ first, then Carrasco, then Marson, but I really wouldn’t want to part with any of them, especially for one guaranteed year of Holliday. I suppose the best deal for the Phils could be Happ and Greg Golson, plus a lesser minor leaguer. ***

Another matter to take into consideration is if Holliday leaves via free agency at the end of 2009, the Phils would get two top draft picks for him, as he’s a Type A player.

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
