Phils Don't Offer Arbitration To Burrell, Moyer

The Phillies have declined to offer arbitration to Pat Burrell and Jamie Moyer.

Both Burrell and Moyer are Type A free agents, meaning they could’ve cost the signing team two first round picks to the Phillies (if the team’s pick isn’t protected). Of course, Burrell and Moyer could’ve accepted arbitration, signing them on for a year with a larger salary than 2008.

I’m not so sure I agree with this, though. Really, it was one year of each or two likely draft picks each. Instead, it’s nothing.

Offered arbitration (meaning they’d cost more than money): AJ Burnett, Milton Bradley (Type B), Juan Cruz, Raul Ibanez,  Jon Garland (Type B), Derek Lowe, Brian Shouse. Not offered arbitration (meaning they’re costing just money): Kerry Wood, Braden Looper, Russ Springer, Alan Embree, Bob Howry, Brad Penny, Bobby Abreu.

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
