Let This Sink In For A Moment

Trolling ESPN.com, I had to post this comment someone left (edited):

For the price of Cole Hamels, Brad Lidge, and Chase Utley combined, the Yankees get 1 year out of A-Rod. How pathetic is that? I bet every team wishes they had a Pat Gillick right about now.

Well, I don’t know if Gillick has a lot to do with it, considering Hamels and Utley are homegrown. But a great comment nonetheless. We may squabble over financial matters, but just consider that quote for a moment: Potentially the best left-handed pitcher, closer and infielder in baseball, for as much as one A-Rod. (In fact, the Phils are even saving $5M and change.) Oh, and the Phils are world champions.

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
