Phillies Sign Marcus Giles To Minor League Deal

Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports the Phillies have signed infielder Marcus Giles to a minor league contract worth $600,000. Giles hit .229 in 2007 with the Padres, and sat out 2008 after losing out on a roster spot with the Rockies.

It looks as if Giles will get an opportunity to try out for second base if Utley doesn’t return immediately.

With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions.
