Ibanez Gets His, Pitching Gets Clocked To Start Spring

Raul Ibanez collected his first RBI of the spring in the Phillies’ 8-2 loss to the Pirates to open the exhibition season. Ibanez stroked a single through the infield in the third inning.

John Mayberry Jr. collected the second RBI with a single in the ninth. Scoring on that play was Jeremy Slayden, who had the best game with a 2-for-2 effort, including a double. The bullpen had the worst game – probable 2009 non-factors Joe Bisenius and Scott Nestor looked horrendous in their inning each. Otherwise, Jamie Moyer threw a solid two to start, Joe Blanton surrendered a run and the group of Joe Borkowski, Jake Woods and Mike Koplove pitched hitless ball in their innings.

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
