Odds And Ends: Relievers, Legends, Burrell

  • Alden Gonzalez wrote about the Phillies bullpen needs.

This came before the Will Ohman rumors surfaced; still, it’s obvious they want at least one more relief arm. Gonzalez mentions the possibility of JA Happ taking a bullpen role if he loses the fifth-starter race. I disagree — no way should Happ be in the bullpen. Chan Ho Park? Sure. Not Happ.

  • George Vecsey of the New York Times sat down with Robin Roberts and Larry Christenson after the annual Baseball Assistance Dinner.

It’s a pretty neat read where two great Phillie pitchers discuss lighter, but important facets of baseball, including admiring raw talent.

  • In the MetroWest (Mass.) Sunday baseball column, Art Davidson Pat Burrell’s impact with the Rays.

In a conference call, Burrell had the usual good things to say about playing in Philadelphia and moving on to Tampa.

Tim Malcolm

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
