As Players Join WBC Squads, Phils Split Up

The Phillies press on without a bunch of players as half the team takes on the Blue Jays in Dunedin, and the other half gets the Jays in Clearwater.

Jimmy Rollins, Shane Victorino, Carlos Ruiz, JC Romero, Matt Stairs and a trio of Aussie minor leaguers have left the Phillies for their World Baseball Classic squads. That shortens up the roster quite a bit, so the Phils are expending almost all of their hitting resources between the two teams today. The A-squad is in Dunedin; JA Happ and Carlos Carrasco are scheduled to pitch, Eric Bruntlett is in center field and the infield is comprised of Ozuna-Donald-Cairo. The B-squad is in Clearwater; Jamie Moyer and Joe Blanton

are scheduled to pitch, Jayson Werth returns to the field (though hitting eighth) and Marcus Giles gets a second base start.

Dunedin: Bruntlett (CF) / Cairo (3B) / Ibanez (DH) / Howard (1B) / Mayberry (RF) / Ozuna (2B) / Slayden (LF) / Donald (SS) / Paulino (C).
Clearwater: Ellison (CF) / Giles (2B) / Jenkins (RF) / Dobbs (DH) / Marson (C) / Cervenak (3B) / Tracy (1B) / Werth (LF) / Valandia (SS).

Tim Malcolm

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
