Howard, Mayberry Bash; Happ, Moyer Cruise In Win

All good things occurred for the Phillies Saturday in an 8-2 win over the Tigers.

Jamie Moyer went four innings, giving up a run on four hits and striking out five. JA Happ, meanwhile, gave up just two hits in his three innings and struck out seven. Scott Eyre gave up a run in an inning; Mike Koplove threw a perfect frame.

Needless to say, it’s looking like the crafty Chan Ho Park and the powerful JA Happ in the Fight For Fifth.

Ryan Howard and John Mayberry Jr. both struck three-run home runs in the win; Lou Marson and Geoff Jenkins added RBI. Currently, it’s looking as if Mayberry is still on pace for a potential roster spot.

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well.
