Phillies Smash Yankees, 8-3

The Phillies offense came alive in an 8-3 win over the Yankees at Bright House Field.

Eric Bruntlett, an offensive star this spring training, went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Two of his hits were doubles as he raised his Grapefruit League average to .340. Raul Ibanez went 3-for-3 with an RBI, while both Matt Stairs and Miguel Cairo belted two-run home runs. Cairo has emerged as a favorite for the final roster spot on the major league club.

JA Happ pitched OK in his five innings. He allowed one earned run (two total) on five hits and three walks. He also struck out three. Clay Condrey, Brad Lidge and Scott Eyre each pitched scoreless frames (as a whole the Phils set bullpen has been sparkling this spring) while Mike Koplove dangled a run in the ninth.

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
