Phillies Trade Thread: July 25

Roy Halladay:

Jayson Stark writes that if the price is going to be J.A. Happ, Kyle Drabek, and Dominic Brown, then the Phillies will not do a deal.

-Jon Heyman of SI.com tweets that the talks between the Phils and Blue Jays are now “intense.”

-Jim Salisbury of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported late last night that Toronto wants Kyle Drabek, J.A. Happ, and Dominic Brown in a deal for Halladay.

-Last night, Halladay threw nine innings of two-run ball against the Tampa Bay Rays.  He struck out 10 and walked three, throwing 115 pitches in the 4-2 Toronto loss.

-The Phillies and Yankees were the only two teams scouting Halladay last night.  Not that it matters, I’m sure plenty of teams know what he is capable of.

-According to Jeff Blair of the Globe and Mail in Canada, Halladay prefers a deal to the Phillies.

-As of last night, Halladay reportedly told Jordan Bastain of MLB.com that he has a feeling he may stay with the Jays.

Other Pitchers:

-Still on the radar for the Phillies are Cliff Lee, Erik Bedard, and Jarrod Washburn.  Barring a deal before then, the Phils will be scouting Lee’s next start on Sunday.

My Take:

-If the asking price is indeed Drabek, Happ, and Brown, the Phillies should advance with caution.  If Toronto wants one of the two pitchers, plus Brown, AND Lou Marson and Jason Donald, then be my guest.  Hell, even throw in Carlos Carrasco or Joe Savery to puff this deal up a little bit. Ruben Amaro realizes that J.P. Ricciardi is trying to take his team to the cleaners and he will not let that happen.
