Myers Will Not Return Next Season

Brett Myers has been told by Ruben Amaro Jr. that he will not return to the Phillies in 2010.  Amaro talked with Myers and made it clear that the team would not pursue him.

Myers will be a free agent and should draw considerable attention as either a starter or reliever.  In eight seasons with the Phillies, Myers was 73-63 with a 4.40 ERA in 240 games.

This comes as a surprise to some, as it appeared Myers would come back to the team willingly for much less money.  With the lack of top notch relief pitchers on the market, the Phillies could have fit Myers into their plans in the bullpen for next year.  However, the headache was too much for the front office and the ties have now been severed.
