Gameday: Marlins (28-31) at Phillies (31-26)

Florida Marlins (28-31) at Philadelphia Phillies (31-26)

Josh Johnson (6-2, 2.10 ERA) vs. Roy Halladay (8-3, 2.03 ERA)

Time: 7:05, Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Rain, 66
TV: Comcast SportsNet

Rain, rain, go away. Let Roy Halladay pitch today.

Will that happen? Who knows, the forecast is calling for steady rain throughout the day.  However, the almighty dollar speaks volumes for MLB teams. They’ll likely wait this thing out as long as they can if they see even a glimmer of hope on the doppler.

If and when this does get underway, the Phillies will send Doc to the hill in what should be an awesome pitchers duel. Halladay, I’m sure you’ll recall, tossed a perfect game against these Marlins two starts ago. He threw just the 8th perfecto in National League history by striking out 11 Marlins. Who wants to see it again?

Josh Johnson hasn’t thrown a PG this year, but he’s been almost as dominant all year for Florida. His 2.10 ERA ranks 5th in the NL, just behind Halladay, and his 77 strikeouts are tied with Roy for 8th in the NL. His 1.08 WHIP is 8th in the league. Roy’s is 1.03, good for 4th in the Senior Circuit.

The bats broke out last game as the Phils reached double-digits for the first time since May 17. That day was the beginning of the team’s slumping ways we’ve become accustomed to lately. Unfortunately, with this pitching matchup and the impending threat of bad weather, it might have to wait another day.

Tonight’s Lineup: Victorino CF, Polanco 3B, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Werth RF, Ibanez LF, Valdez SS, Ruiz C, Halladay P
