With their win last night, the Phillies clinched a series victory over the beleaguered Washington Nationals, ensuring at least a modicum of momentum for their most important series of the season, this week’s three-game tilt with the Atlanta Foam Rubber Tomahawk Wielders. With a three-game lead on the division, the Phillies can put another nail in the Braves’ coffin in this afternoon’s getaway game.

Opposing La Furia Roja today is Yunesky Maya. I had never heard of him before taping the latest Phillies Nation Podcast on Friday. Since then, I’ve learned that he’s 5-foot-11 and will be making his third major league appearance this afternoon. I also discovered that he’s a Cuban, which must surely mean that he’s full of pork, mustard, and Swiss cheese and is very tasty with a glass of iced tea and some potato chips.

Today’s lineup: Victorino CF, Polanco 3B, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Werth RF, Ibanez LF, Schneider C, Valdez SS, Blanton P

Your gameday beer: Budweiser Select 55
Today, the English fashion model Twiggy turns 61. In her honor, today’s beer is designed not to taste good or get you drunk, but to give you something to hold while you’re too busy worrying about your figure to actually engage in social activity. At 2.4% ABV, Bud Select 55 is so wussified, it’s taxed as a non-alcoholic beer in some states. And yes, that dress does make you look fat, sweetheart. —Michael Baumann

Unsettled by the Phillies’ recent success, he has threatened over the years to leave the team he loves if they don’t start losing again, but has so far been unable to follow through. Michael spent 4 years as an undercover agent in Braves territory at the University of South Carolina, where he covered football and soccer for The Daily Gamecock before moving back up north. He began writing for The Phrontiersman in June 2009 before moving to Phillies Nation in January 2010.
