Oswalt Dominiant as Phillies Take Mets Finale

This recap will be short, just as the 2 hour, 15 minute game was at Citi Field. Roy Oswalt was masterful, tossing a complete-game, 113-pitch, four-hitter in the Phillies 3-0 win over the happless Mets.

It was Oswalt’s 12th victory of the season, his 6th straight as a member of the Phils. It’s also his first shutout of the season, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Last night’s loss coupled with a Braves win, made the NL East a tie ballgame. The win now ensures the Phils a spot at the top of the division, no matter the outcome of this evening’s Atlanta-St. Louis matchup.

Chase Utley started the scoring for the Phillies with an RBI single in the first inning, plating Shane Victorino. A third inning, Ryan Howard single scored Placido Polanco to make it 2-0. Raul Ibanez added another with a solo homer in the seventh, and that was more than plenty for the third ace.

You can’t ask for much more out of Oswalt. He’s blossoming during a pennant race and is providing the Phils an added weapon which will absolutely come in handy.

Tomorrow, the Phillies head to Florida for a three game series with the Marlins.
