Odds and Ends: Larish, Morandini, Quentin

– The Phillies inked infielder/outfielder Jeff Larish to a minor league deal today. Larish spent parts three seasons with the Tigers organization before being dealt to Oakland last year. He’s a career .224 hitter in the big leagues over 276 plate appearances. Larish will provide depth in the upper-levels of the farm system and not much else.

His career in the minor leagues has been a productive one. Larish is a .267 hitter with 99 home runs in just under 2,300 plate appearances over six seasons.

-Mickey Morandini was hired today to take over the Class A Williamsport Crosscutters of the New York-Penn League. The 44-year old Morandini spent four seasons as baseball coach at Valparaiso High in Indiana. He also spent parts of nine season with the Phillies.

-Rumors were circulating that the Phillies were doing their homework on Carlos Quentin of the Chicago White Sox as a possible trade candidate to take over for Jayson Werth. Ruben Amaro called that report false today which was coupled with a report from Bruce Levine of ESPNChicago.com that Quentin would not be shopped by White Sox GM Ken Williams.

Quentin hit 26 home runs for Chicago last year, but struggled with left-handed pitching.
