FREE AT LAST! FREE AT LAST! THANK GOD ALMIGHTY, WE’RE FREE AT LAST!
Finally, we can stop talking about missing Jayson Werth, stop panicking about the Braves, stop waking up in a cold sweat thinking about Chase Utley’s knee! We can stop imagining Cody Ross’s Game 1 home runs off Roy Halladay and Ryan Howard’s strikeout to end Game 6. It’s Opening Day! Youth springs eternal! Everyone’s got a chance to win it all!
I’ve been looking forward to this day for six months–can you tell?
Anyway, the Phillies, relieved of some of their big bats, come out of the gate with their best pitcher against a familiar face, Brett Myers. Myers was quietly one of the best pitchers in the National League last year, going at least 5 2/3 innings in each of his 33 starts, a 14-8 record for a team that was 20 games under .500, and a career-low 3.14 ERA. Myers was 10th in the Cy Young voting (an award which his opponent Friday, Halladay, won, so take that for what it’s worth).
Expect a tough game this afternoon: the Phillies swept the Astros last April, but on the return leg in August, the Astros took four in a row from the eventual NL East champions, including one of the most entertaining games of that or any season. Oh, this is going to be good….

Your Gameday Beer – Foothills Brewery People’s Porter
Chock full of flavor, this North Carolina-brewed beer has hints of chocolate and coffee, which, in my estimation, are key elements to a good porter. Also, this is quite simply the best label I’ve ever seen on a beer. You can almost taste the graphic excellence of the lable. – By Brian
