Pirates Down Phillies in 12

Cole Hamels was brilliant, giving up one hit and one run over eight innings, but it mattered not. The offense did the Phillies in yet again as the Pirates held on for dear life to escape with a 2-1, 12 inning win.

For the first time this season we saw the lineup we were supposed to see throughout. With Shane Victorino back in the fold after a hamstring injury, everything stayed the same.

Of the six hits on the night, Hamels himself managed two of them. Chase Utley knocked in the only Phillies run of the night.

In the 12th, Danys Baez allowed a two out hit to Xavier Paul, who then stole second base. Jose Tabata ended it with a single to right field, and just like that a night of hard work by Phillies pitching was done in with small ball – a concept the Phillies cannot quite grasp.
