Phils Walk Off After Hamels Blanks Pirates

Cole Hamels is already in the zone

It’s a walk off win for the Phillies in their sixth Grapefruit league game. Cole Hamels started the game, and is already pitching like it’s the middle of July. He threw three and two-thirds innings of shutout baseball today, before being yanked out of a jam and saved by Dave Bush. In those innings, he allowed four hits while striking out two. That’s five and two-thirds Spring Training innings so far, and he seems to be already in the zone, rather than ironing out the kinks or shaking off the rust.

After Hamels exited, Dave Bush gave up three runs in two and a third innings. Antonio Bastardo, Phillippe Aumont, and Michael Shwimer all threw scoreless innings, with Shwimer picking up the win. Aumont looked great in his inning of work.

On the offensive side of things, Hunter Pence

picked up two hits, while Shane Victorino smacked a two-run home run. Lou Montanez hit the game winning home run in the first at-bat of the tenth inning. Other Phillies to pick up hits were Michael Martinez, Placido Polanco, Jim Thome, Ty Wigginton, and Freddy Galvis. Outfielder Tyson Gillies showed his speed as he swiped a back with ease in the ninth inning.

The Phillies take on the Tigers at 1:05 PM tomorrow as Roy Halladay takes the mound.
