Hamels Suspended 5 Games by MLB

Cole Hamels has been suspended 5 games by Major League Baseball. The punishment was handed down minutes ago by the league. Hamels will begin the suspension tonight.

Throwing my two cents in, this is an overreaction by MLB. It was taken care of on the field after Jordan Zimmermann hit Hamels. But the suspension stems, obviously, from Hamels telling the media he did is purposely. Still, a fine would have been a fantastic way of ending this once and for all.

Either way, Hamels will basically miss no time. His start will likely be pushed back to Sunday, as the Phillies could try to give Roy Halladay

a day of rest and pitch him on Saturday.

So, not much lost here. If anything, it gives Hamels another day of rest and mixes the rotation up a bit.
