Why I Love the Phillies – Keith

Each Friday, we will post a reader story from our “Why I Love the Phillies” contest.

I am from Northern New Jersey and have loved the Phils since I was on the Phillies little league team when I was 10 years old in 1971. Then I went to see my first baseball game with my dad (a Mets fan) at Shea Stadium against the Phils in a twi-night doubleheader.

This was when the Phils lost 100 games or something and Mike Schmidt and Greg Luzinski were just babies. The Phils won both games and the love-fest was on.

Now I have a son and he loves the Phils and I take him down the Bank twice a year to watch the Phils. We purchase every year’s video highlight yearbook and we have so much fun. We actually took it to the Outer Banks, NC last week on vacation to look at 2005 and 2006 all over again.

I guess I just bleed red. It has been tough working in New York my whole life answering the question “why do you like the Phillies/Flyers if you live in NY/NJ?”. I tell them this story.
