Why I Love the Phillies – Mike

I was an 8 year old growing up in Chicago when my dad took me to a Cubs/Phillies doubleheader in 1950. The Cubs stunk, even back then, but none of them would sign my scorecard. Seeing my disappointment, my dad took me over to the Phillies side between games and when the teams came back out, one of the Phillies (none of whom I knew), saw my outstretched hand and stopped to sign my scorecard. He looked down at me and asked if I was a Phillie fan? I gasped “Yes Sir!” That Phillie was Robin Roberts and today, 62 years later, I am still a Phillie Phanatic. Anyone who says professional athletes are not role models, just ask me.
