Whew. That was fun. The Phillies put up three runs in each of the first two innings , and kept piling it on en route to a 16-1 thrashing of the Dodgers Friday night. The offensive explosion is the first time this season that the Phillies put up double digit runs in a game. Each Phillie in the starting lineup had a hit, including six with multiple hits (including starting pitcher John Lannan).

Bats. Where to start? The Phillies offense absolutely exploded Friday night. Everyone in the lineup recorded a hit, including John Lannan (who had three!!!) Michael Young, Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins, Delmon Young, Ben Revere, and Lannan all had multiple hits. Delmon Young  had six RBI. Michael Young had four hits, including a home run. John Mayberry Jr. hit a dinger as well. It was like batting practice out in Los Angeles. John McDonald even got a hit in his first plate appearance as a Phillie.  Skip Schumaker ended up pitching for the Dodgers in the ninth, and was the only Dodger “pitcher” to not allow a run.

Who is this guy and what has he done with Delmon Young? He’s been en fuego lately, and he even made a fantastic play in the field tonight. He had six RBI, and had another multiple hit game. This is all after a lot of us fans were calling for his head when he couldn’t buy a hit, made blunders in the field, and had no plate discipline whatsoever. But all of a sudden, he caught fire and in my opinion bought himself a spot on the roster for a good amount of time in the future. And hey, if he produces like this, I’m all for it.

John Lannan and Chris Capuano came into this game in similar situations. They had both spent time on the DL, and were in their third start after being activated. However, Lannan had struggled in his two starts, and Capuano threw nothing but goose eggs in his two starts. But tonight, it was the opposite of what you would suspect, as Lannan had a solid start and Capuano got shelled.

The Phils and Dodgers are back at it tomorrow with Cliff Lee and Hyun-Jin Ryu taking the mound, respectively. I’d say that’s good news for the Phillies.
