Manuel to Rejoin Phillies in Front Office

(AP)

According to my colleague at 97.5 The Fanatic, Brian Startare, Charlie Manuel will be returning to the Phillies in an advisory role to General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr.

Manuel, 70, had taken a while to mull over the option, decided to accept the position to stay with the team. According to Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com, Manuel will work closely with minor league hitters while serving a role similar to Dallas Green within the front office.

After being let go by the team, Charlie said he wanted to continue managing, although it became clear there were no teams willing to ride with a leader at that age.  It’s certainly great to hear that Manuel is back in the organization. At the time of the firing, I believed he should have been allowed to run out the rest of the year, but it became clear as time went on that the Phillies were probably correct in allowing Ryne Sandberg to assume to duties.
