Report: Schilling Diagnosed with Cancer

ESPN is reporting that former Phillies’ pitcher Curt Schilling has been diagnosed with cancer. It was reported in December that the 47-year old Schilling would be joining the ESPN Sunday Night Baseball crew for the 2014 but updated plans have not been announced. Shonda Schilling, Curt’s wife, is a cancer survivor, having battled stage 2 malignant melanoma in 2001.

Schilling made three-consecutive All-Star teams for the Phillies from 1997 through 1999. Before Schilling was a postseason hero in Arizona and Boston, Schilling pitched a complete game shutout in Game 5 of the 1993 World Series in the Vet against the Toronto Blue Jays to force a Game 6.

Our thoughts are with the Schilling family at this time.
