Phillies Acquire Jayson Nix from Rays, Send Aumont to Iron Pigs

On Friday, the Phillies rounded out their bench by acquiring Jayson Nix, brother of Laynce, from the Tampa Bay Rays for cash. Nix, 31, will be Jimmy Rollins’ backup at shortstop.

Last season with the Yankees, Nix hit 236 with three homers and 24 RBIs in 86 games. He can also play second base, third base, and has played in the outfield. Not a bad move to make as the final bench bat.

Reid Brignac was told he would not make the team and Phillippe Aumont was once again sent to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Aumont can’t seem to put it all together, although he did have a decent spring. Aumont went 0-2 with a 2.77 ERA in 10 Grapefruit League appearances. The hope is that he can finally put it all together.
