A Note for Tonight:

Cole Hamels is coming off an excellent start against the Cincinnati Reds, who he shutout in 7.2 innings.  Hamels has had a history of dominating the Reds, and he will once again face a team who he has had career success against.  In 14 career starts, Hamels is 8-2 with a 2.39 ERA against the San Diego Padres.

After his victory against the Reds, Hamels was quoted to say: “Any time I’m here and going up against that team, it’s what I associate: those positive memories. That kind of jumpstarts it.”

Hamels’ statement is important tonight. He faces another team who he knows he has success against. There’s a good chance that he will gain confidence for tonight’s game knowing that he does well against the Padres.  Baseball is just as mental as it is physical, so those “positive memories” should do Hamels good.

Lineup: Revere CF / Rollins SS / Utley 2B / Howard 1B / Byrd RF / Brown LF / Ruiz C / Brignac 3B / Hamels P
