Per Jim Salisbury of CSN Philly, the Phillies have signed Panamanian shortstop Jonathan Arauz for $600 K. The signing is front-page news in Panama.
Note: There is one comment on the article at this time which is apparent exasperation that Arauz choose the Phillies. “Solo como observacion al que redacto la noticia, FILIS ??? esta claro como se escribe en la camiseta del Pana… saludos,” the commentor says, which translates into “Just as I am observing the news, Phillies?” Either the poster is very excited that Arauz has chosen the Phillies or the international perception of the Phillies is starting to match that of what is felt here in the states.
