Hollands to miss time with elbow strain
It was announced on Sunday that lefty hurler Mario Hollands will be sidelined for some time due to a strained common flexor tendon following an MRI examination.
A treatment plan for the ailment is yet to be determined. Further evaluation by team doctor Michael Ciccotti is planned for the coming week.
As a rookie last year, the UC Santa Barbara product tallied a 2-2 record with a 4.40 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP in 50 games as a reliever before missing time with a forearm injury late in the season.
In five appearances this spring in Grapefruit League action, Hollands, who was the Phillies’ 10th round draft selection in 2010, allowed seven earned runs in 5 1/3 innings (11.81 ERA).
The injury to Hollands could open the door for left-hander Andy Oliver to make the big league roster heading into the season. Oliver, 27, sports a 2-0 record with a 2.16 ERA, 16 strike outs and three walks in 8 1/3 innings for the Phillies during the current exhibition season.
