Dr. Dog Dedicates New Song to the Phanatic

The Phillies may be the laughing stock of MLB this season, but if there’s one reason to still make the trip to the ballpark, it’s to see the Phillie Phanatic.

Philly band Dr. Dog has conveyed their admiration for the beloved mascot through a song called, “The Phanatic Song.” It will be included on the Phanatic’s charity DVD entitled The Phillie Phanatic’s One-Man Band, and will be handed out for free on September 13 when the Phillies take on the Chicago Cubs at Citizens Bank Park. Unfortunately, it’ll only be available for kids 14 and under.

All proceeds will go towards Phanatic About Reading, a charity which promotes literacy in kids from kindergarten to high school. The song, which was recorded last November, premiered yesterday on WXPN’s blog and during Dan Reed’s Top 5 at 5 segment.

This isn’t the first time the two groups have joined forces to make music. During a show at the Electric Factory in February 2014, the Phanatic joined Dr. Dog on stage for an encore performance to their show.

The track features a catchy tune and lyrics such as “It’s the Phanatic/ and it’s magic.” I’m not one for corny puns, but I dare say the song is a….home run.
