In Case You Haven’t Heard, the Phillies Signed a Power Hitting Prospect

After the Phillies traded their number 9 international signing spot (with Chris Oliver and Josh Taylor also in the deal) for the number 1 spot with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Phillies have officially announced the signing of Jhailyn Ortiz yesterday.

Jhailyn Ortiz is 16 years-old from the Dominican Republic, a 6’3″, 240 pound outfielder, who is ranked as the 6th best overall international prospect by MLB.com.  Ortiz was signed to a minor league contract with a $4.2 million signing bonus.

International signings also included Venezuelan catcher Rafael Marchan, Dominican infielder Kuedy Bocio, and Dominican lefthander Manuel Silva.
