Pirates Show Interest in Revere, Frenchy

According to Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, the Pirates have shown interest in obtaining Phillies outfielders Ben Revere and Jeff Francoeur. At 52-35, the Pirates have the second-best record in the NL and are in the driver’s seat for a Wild Card position while keeping within arm’s length of the first place Cardinals but have seen injuries ravage their depth chart. All-Star utility player Josh Harrison will be sidelined with a torn UCL thrusting other utility player Jung Ho Kang into the starting line-up. The movement has left the Pirates bench corps very thin.

Revere could be an option for the Pirates in the lead-off position when starting in a platoon or bench role. Since April 28, Revere has hit .320/.360/.395 with 16 steals while leading the NL in triples for the season. Frenchy, on the other hand, may not have the flashiest slash line for the season, .246/.278/.410 with six homers, but has mashed righties with a .481 slugging percentage on the year.  Revere was nearly dealt to Anaheim last month for impressive rookie reliever Trevor Gott

, establishing an idea of what he could fetch while Biertempfel suggests Steven Brault, 23-year old, 2013 11th-round draft choice, could be the going rate for Francoeur.
