Ruben Amaro Jr. out as Phillies’ GM

The Phillies announced Thursday that they will not extend Ruben Amaro Jr.’s contract as the team’s general manager, and that the search for his replacement will be effective immediately.

Here’s the full statement from the Phillies via Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal:

Amaro had enjoyed a successful two months where he managed to trade Cole Hamels, Jake Diekman, Jonathan Papelbon, Ben Revere, and Chase Utley for a group of talented prospects that helped propel a once depleted farm system to the league’s seventh best

. One thing is certain: whoever replaces Amaro will have a strong foundation to work with.

A press conference will be held at 3 p.m. on Comcast SportsNet.
