Rollins Inks Minor League Deal with ChiSox

As predicted right here on the Phillies Nation Podcast, the Chicago White Sox have signed shortstop Jimmy Rollins to a minor league pact. Rollins, 37, hit .224/.285/.358 with 13 HR and 12 SB in his only season with the Los Angeles Dodgers and displayed average defense in the field.

As Steve Adams points out at MLBTradeRumors, Rollins still has plenty of power and speed but may have been undone by some unluckiness at the plate. His .246 BABIP was the lowest of his career. Rollins is betting on himself having rejected two Major League offers for more money

to take a stab at what might be the clearest path to winning a starting shortstop role still available in the Majors.

The Phillies’ all-time hit leader has a chance to compete with Tyler Saladino for the starting shortstop job and has a very good chance at making the White Sox out of camp in some capacity.
