Time: 3:10 pm

Notes for today:

Nola threw a career-high eight strikeouts Wednesday against Cincinnati. He went seven innings and surrendered one run (home run). He allowed 10 fly balls and seven ground balls in the effort.

Cameron Rupp gets the home-opener start; he’s the only catcher Nola has ever thrown to in the majors.

Cedric Hunter starts the home opener too. His first taste of the majors came in 2011 with the Padres, the team that drafted him. In six games with San Diego, he hit .250 and scored a run.

Ryan Howard has hit 11 career home runs against the Padres (59 games).

Padres starter Cashner has pitched well in his career against the Phils (2-1, 1,93 ERA in nine games).

Your Gameday Beer: The Phillies are back home, which means going with a local brew. I’m grabbing a personal favorite, Brawler, from Yards Brewing right over in Northern Liberties. This easy English Mild Ale at 4.2% ABV is perfect for a weekday afternoon. Sip away. Go Phils!

Tim Malcolm

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
