Starting pitchers: RHP Vincent Velasquez vs RHP Bartolo Colon

Time: 7:10 pm
Broadcast: TV – CSN, MLB Network; radio – 94.1 FM WIP
Weather: 42 degrees, rain
Media: Twitter and Facebook

Lineup: Galvis SS/Hernandez 2B/Herrera CF/Franco 3B/Howard 1B/Rupp C/Hunter LF/Bourjos RF/Velasquez P

Notes for today:

Velasquez, who makes his first Phillies start Saturday, went 1-1 with a 4.37 ERA in 55.2 innings last season with Houston. Last season his performance dramatically fell after getting two outs in an inning (.265/.315/.44, 11 XBH) while his strikeout ratio soared (6 strikeouts per walk).

Franco is back in the lineup after getting hit in the elbow Thursday in Cincinnati; he’s the Phils’ best hitter this year, with an early 1.162 OPS.

Colon can tie Pedro Martinez at 219 for second-most wins among Dominican-born pitchers (Juan Marichal [243]). He pitched on opening night for the Mets and gets his first start this season. Last year he went 14-13 with a 4.16 ERA, 136 strikeouts and 24 walks. The 217 hits he surrendered last year were, however, most in the National League.

David Wright is off today for the Mets; Wilmer Flores gets his first start of the year. Thus far he’s just 0-for-1 on the year.

Your Gameday Beer: Tim will be at Citi Field tonight in the shivering cold, probably hoping to score a Billy 18 Watt from SingleCut Beersmiths, a pretty awesome brewery just a hop, skip and jump away from the park (Astoria, Queens, New York City). SingleCut’s brewery – in a brick building across from a shopping center – is a great place to hang, filled with great classic rock vinyls and fun board games. Spend some time there with a Billy 18 Watt, a hoppy but sessionable brew at just 5% ABV. Cheers!

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
