Carlos Ruiz Traded to Dodgers

Phillies longtime catcher Carlos Ruiz was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers today.  In return, the Phillies received backup catcher A.J. Ellis, minor league pitcher and Haverford College alum Tommy Bergjanas, and a player to be named later.

Ruiz was an integral part of the 2008 World Championship team as well as caught Roy Halladay’s perfect game and no hitter, Cole Hamels’ no-hitter last year and the Phillies’ combined no-hitter in 2014.  He finishes his Philadelphia career with a .266 average in 1069 games.

Chooch was certainly a fan favorite and will be missed in Philadelphia.  More analysis on the trade coming soon.
