Return to LA for Utley uncertain

Good morning! Very little going on, but here’s what’s going on:

THREE THINGS: Ryan Lawrence at the Philly Voice writes about three things to look forward to now that we’re counting down to spring training. Those things: Who will be in the rotations in Philly and Lehigh Valley; how the Phillies settle on a 2017 contract for Cesar Hernandez; and if the franchise reworks Pete Mackanin’s contract.

CHASING CHASE: The Dodgers on Monday traded pitcher Jose De Leon to Tampa Bay for second baseman Logan Forsythe. With that, one has to wonder if Chase Utley has a future with the Dodgers (he’s a free agent).

Club President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman says it’s plausible Utley is back in Dodger blue in 2017

, especially since – apparently – the Dodgers love Utley. Either way, he’s still out there on the market.

AND EVERYONE ELSE: Joe Blanton and Ryan Howard still remain free agents. Shane Victorino, too.

GRAPEFRUITING: Our annual spring training preview continues today, as Kirsten Swanson tells you where you can go for a little non-baseball fun in the Clearwater area. Stay tuned!

Tim Malcolm

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
