Galvis pulls out of World Baseball Classic with injury

Phillies shortstop Freddy Galvis will not play for Team Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic.

Why? He’s hurt.

Galvis has a tight groin. It’s not serious, and he probably still could’ve played, but the decision was made to stay with the Phillies in Clearwater, most likely to heal his body and not put too much strain on it.

Which is smart. It’s a shame he’s not playing in the WBC, and I wouldn’t have cared if he still went for it, but this is ultimately the smart, long-view decision.

The Venezuela team includes Phillies Jeanmar Gomez, Odubel Herrera and Edubray Ramos. Read more about Phils and the WBC here.
